About this deal

Furthermore, the full frequency range is effectively extended from 20Hz to 40kHz to produce an upper treble response previously unobtainable in an IEM. PLANAR MAGNETIC DRIVERThe planar magnetic driver utilizes a thin ribbon suspended between two powerful magnets through which electrical currents run. RAPTGO HOOK-X” and the unit serial number are printed in white on the top face of the housing, along with “L” and “R” indicators. TinHifi P1, 7hzTimeless,Gold Planar GL12, Shuoer Tape Pro, Sennheiser IE 300 DUNU Vernus Meze Audio Advar Meze Audio Penta Solo Acoustune HS1655CU IMR acoustics BC(23) Trinity Hyperion. Nothing sound boring with the Hook, yet, nothing sound overly offensive too, this is one of its multiple talents.

Either way, it extends the length of the source connection by about 1/3rd of an inch and is not too distracting. This could be partially attributed to the open-back nature of the shell, but the frequency response may also play a bit into this with a less forward upper-mid-range than other IEMs. Moreover, the newly designed PZT acoustic shock drive bracket structure greatly avoid transmission loss and vibration to present a better sound performance. This is the miracle of the Hook X, to achieve the first cohesive tuning for a Planar Hybrid, which put to shame both Dunu Talos and the infamous Obravo Cupid. Bass is notably less bodied and impactful with the Heyday, it's less well defined in roundness too, and doesn't move a lot of air compared to Hook's deep rumble. The treble is another highlight of the Hook, this piezoelectric is like no other I Iave listen to and mis ore on par with ttop-of-the-lin magnetostatic drivers, but it seems even cleaner and less noisy-grainy-fuzzy than that. This would be my first time listening to a set of headphones or earphones with a PZT driver, which certainly had me agree when Linsoul kindly offered TechPowerUp a set for review. Treble Heads may be left wanting, but for those who want a non-pain, non-fatigue and zero shrill treble performance… my friends the Hook-X.

The treble is extended and while it doesn't have the most air of IEMs, it still has plenty of output in these extreme areas to provide proper sounding percussions and reed instruments, all while not sounding muted and congested. The modular connections feel tight enough and so long as you don’t throw this set around like a ragdoll, it should last. No more comments apart that planar mode is good and offers a smoother leaner and more neutral tonality than HBB, with inferior technicalities and less dynamic and engaging musicality.

This is another case (like with other planars) where I can drive the Hook to reasonably good volume levels with lower powered dongle dacs. Yet, since we have a good modular cable included, I feel already content to not feel the need to upgrade it. I Will Survive (1981 recording, I like her voice, and the old vocals, the drums, and various natural instruments really make this a favorite for me.

It's this kind of IEM that magnifies the best part of bass, mids, and highs and can offer a versatile performance that is never boring, unlike safer tuning that over-tamed energy of our beloved music. These are a rare mid-range that feels gently bright with a hint of extra low harmonic warmth that thickens the timbre. Including three sets of the same type of eartips is excessive and I would have preferred a set of foam tips if not just a differently shaped set of silicone eartips. I like my mid-range between vivid lushness and warmth with a good note weight dynamic and this is near exactly what the Hook delivers in a very open way.
