Roald Dahl (Author) Roald Dahl was a spy, ace fighter pilot, chocolate historian and medical inventor. He was a fighter pilot for the RAF during World War Two, and it was while writing about his experiences during this time that he started his career as an author. In 1999 he became the first ever Children's Laureate and in 2013 he was knighted for services to illustration.
