And overall, the image has a very natural look to it – it's nicely sharp but not unnecessarily so, the same going for its grain management and colour reproduction, which overall gives this disc a very pleasing image.The only new extra is only 8 minutes and doesn’t amount to much more than an EPK for the new Scream. track that reminds us that we don’t need a fancy new 3D soundtrack to feel part of what’s going on on-screen. Sadly, the Blu-ray from Lionsgate arrives with a disappointing video presentation that's ruined by noticeable edge enhancement. Still, the inhabitants of this small area feel as if the tragedies are so fresh that they could have occurred yesterday. Ghostface's menacing voice sounds impressively gravelly and of course the screams, slashing and general clatter of all of the attack scenes are extremely well placed around the soundfield. Thankfully they fully embraced this notion, tackled it head on and produced what remains one of horrors great sequels precisely because of what it is… a proper, no-nonsense, full-bodied, ‘sequel’.

No obvious compression issues were noted - frozen or clumpy grain or artefacts introduced – so Paramount seem to have done a really solid job of getting the film onto the disc in the first place. A near faultless blend of self-awareness, humor and outright scream-worthy scares, this is a film that knows you know what to expect, and it plays with those expectations like a cat with a cornered mouse. Wes Craven's Screamis a well constructed and cleverly entertaining feature that revitalized the slasher movie, as well as the career of the legendary director. Aside from a few scattered shots of mild softness, definition is near excellent for the most part with nicely distinct lines in clothes, foliage and various background objects.
