About this deal

Here, shiitake gained the name that remains widely accepted today — shii for Castanopsis cuspidata, the hardwood tree species that the mushrooms commonly grow on, and take, the Japanese word for mushroom. Mushroom crisps have a lot of vitamins and minerals and don’t contain starch, making them a great alternative for diabetics. But I’m the only mushroom eater in my household — so if I don’t have a specific dish in mind for my fungi, I tend to turn them into one on of my favorite kinds of food: crunchy, crispy, salty snacks. I usually only eat mushrooms raw because I don't like them wet and slippery like they get in cooked dishes and salads.

Not only are they healthy, tasty, gluten-free snacks, but they’re also perfect for any budget and they’re quite filling, too. This essential nutrient helps keep your digestive system running smoothly and prevents constipation by keeping food moving through your intestines. Crispy Shiitakes - Martha Stewart

Your timing will vary depending on the size of your mushrooms and the temperament of your oven — this batch took about 35 minutes in mine, which tends to run cool. It said on the packaging; slow cooked to keep the nutritional value, I try to figure this out, can you help? If you’re not getting enough sunlight, you can visit your doctor and ask about what vitamin D supplements you may take. It also plays a critical role in managing moods as well as keeping your blood sugar at healthy levels. As the mushrooms get closer to doneness, the smaller caps will start to curl and crisp up before the larger ones. I tested a few ounces of sliced mushrooms (just plain old white ones), let them get hot in my little convection/ toaster oven and then flipped them around in 1 tsp coconut oil, and let them go at 350 degrees F. The trick is to pull out the pan when the larger pieces are crispy as possible without burning the little guys.
