The Singleton of Dufftown is distilled in the Dufftown distillery in Speyside, the heart of malt whisky production in Scotland.

I have also done a side by side comparison of this Singleton release against the Glenfiddich 12 yo whisky. Has a nice nose and the initial flavour has hints of dried fruit; it’s all let down by a terribly bitter after taste.

It is perfect neat or with ice, but also mixes perfectly with soda for a refreshing tasting long drink. The Singleton of Dufftown 12 year old has the trademark Singleton sweet fruity smoothness, with hints of brown sugar and espresso coffee. Palate: Drying at first with oak and cinnamon, before hints of fresh apple and caramelised pear bring a juiciness to the palate.

Then I tried it straight and found it much more enjoyable with hints of vanilla and caramel followed by what I perceived as pear which was lingering until a slightly bitter finish… not only in a bad way…and some heat at the end. To achieve the light and fruity character that makes this whisky enjoyable from the first sip, we distill our spirit very gently.

A traditional hip flask inspires the unique bottle shape of The Singleton of Dufftown, while the glass’s colour reflects the blue flint glass used at the turn of the previous century. As a part of our ongoing commitment to reduce our environmental impact, The Singleton has installed a new weir and fish pass in the river Dullan that feeds the Dufftown distillery ? The spirit is predominantly matured in American oak ex Bourbon casks, which naturally impart layers of sweet, nutty flavours, and blended with a small portion of liquid rested in European oak ex Sherry casks to lend a rich fruity dimension for a perfectly balanced Single Malt. Whisky has been distilled at the distillery since 1896 and from fermentation to distillation we do our utmost best to ensure every drop of spirit is the highest quality.

The majority of the malt whisky produced at the Dufftown distillery is used for blended whiskies – particularly Bell’s and Johnnie Walker whisky. The three and a half year project will significantly improve upstream biodiversity and increase the opportunity for spawning trout and salmon. The Singleton of Dufftown has an aroma of toasted nuts with rich fruits, with hints of blackcurrant, brown sugar and coffee on the palate - before an elegantly drying and crisp finish.

Added, just to experiment and because I'd gotten it so cheap, about 5 drops of sherry and a drop of Wrights liquid smoke, and it turned out just fine.
