But I have to give credit to developer Stormfront for creating a fun game to go inside the Spiderwick license. The film is not what it sometimes is, let alone what it wants to be: a very memorable and engaging fantasy flick for the whole family to be gripped by, but when it's all said and done, there's enough charm and entertainment value here to get you by with a fun final product, just not much outside of that.

The adventure is a bit too intense for children, but I absolutely loved, it was inventive and mature, a bit too mature for younger viewer. After breaking into the house, they find more of Jack's annotations, which compare the hydra, shown as a group of intertwined wyrm dragons, to the legend of the Rat King. No, this is isn't that much like "Narnia", but it is about some kid trying to save a magical world, and on top of that, it's produced by Nickelodeon, the poor man's Disney. Perhaps the idea is that with the guide destroyed then they could do whatever they want whenever they wanted, without having to worry about barriers being placed around houses so that they get past them. The family dynamic is interesting: The kids learn to help each other, their mom is mostly irritable and sometimes unfair, and their father recently left them.

After getting grounded by their scared and angry mother for worrying her and coming home late, they discover that Thimbletack, enraged at Jared's forceful taking of the seeing stone, has again become a Boggart and reverted to his mischievous ways. This would get tedious were it not for the fact that, once you catch enough of a certain kind, you are freed from the need to paint their portrait. Simon thought that it would be a good idea if we built a tree house, up in the trees, so we would have a place to hide if the goblins tried to attack us while we were too far away from the house. After a narrow escape from the dwarves' mechanical dogs, they make their way out of the tunnel but have to hide before leaving.

Combat is mostly button-mashing, but it's pretty satisfying smashing in a goblin's skull with a metal baseball bat. In a rage, Mulgarath flings Simon and Mallory out of the window but Thimbletack's chains hold, and they don't fall far.Mallory is revealed to be sleeping in a glass-coffin dressed in medieval garb (similarly to Snow White), with the dwarves saying she is now immortal, so long as she stays in the coffin. Simon is sent up with the dumbwaiter in the kitchen, while Mallory and Jared discover a secret door through a linen closet that leads directly into the secret library.Goblins - Mischievous and grubby, goblins love smoke, fire, metal, a good bloodshed and a few tasty cats or dogs. Outside of that, this film is so non-threatening that they have mythical creatures voiced by Seth Rogen and Martin Short, although they may have just gotten short because they needed someone as white as possible to play what Wikipedia describes as a "loyal house brownie". When Simon Grace is kidnapped by a band of vicious Goblins, Thimbletack leads Mallory and Simon to an awkward object: a Seeing Stone, which allows one to see invisible Fey. Most of the voice acting is also very well done, except, unfortunately, the voice of Jared, the main character. The three nixies eventually agree to use their singing to lure the giants, and one of them is taken to the water with Nick and Jared in a surfboard (since nixies are used to freshwater, salt water hurts their skin).

That night, the family stays at a hotel where they try to come up with a plan and Jules shows Sandspur to his girlfriend, Cindy. However, at the end of the books he is ultimately friendly and apparently becomes friends with Hogsqueal. Hogsqueal the hobgoblin informs them that the house was destroyed by the goblins who have kidnapped their mother and taken her to the palace of their fearsome master, Mulgarath the ogre. Later on, though, it can become frustrating when the player is left without knowing where to go or what to do.The novel ends as the Grace children make amends with Thimbletack by building him a new home out of an old birdhouse.
