The main gameplay of Splendor Duel remains much the same as the original’s, with players competing by acquiring victory points from various cards found in the game.

Jewels are selected randomly from a felt bag, before being placed along the spiral until the board is completely full. I thought that the refilling and emptying the bag of tokens would be much more time-consuming than it was.

The art is also a huge improvement over the original game, which had too many pictures of empty caves. You MUST take up to 3 tokens in a line from the board (excluding gold – if there’s a gold, it interrupts the line so you can only take the token(s) up to the gold one).

Splendor Duel offers a new 2-player experience, rules, and tactics from the original Splendor, which is sure to excite experienced and new players alike. When someone doesn't like the choices on the board — which can happen quickly since both empty spaces and gold break up adjacency — you can decide to refill the board before choosing tokens for your turn.
