About this deal

You get 39 hours, 33 minutes from the MAX variant, which is about four hours more than you get from the standard 700 Gen 2 headset.

The headset is built mainly from plastic (with a metal strip running through the headband), and is pretty light. Like the levels, these aren’t groundbreaking features, but access to them is not a given on consoles.

Because the headset is built for the PlayStation 5, it doesn’t offer anything in the way of virtual surround sound on its own. We’re testing the PS5 version (which is also compatible with the PS4 and Nintendo Switch), but there’s also an Xbox Series X/S (and One) version. That said, the fuzz hasn’t completely disappeared – it’s inaudible most of the time, but there are occasions that it intrudes once more, such as when your ship dives towards a planet in Destiny 2.

Plenty of gaming headsets use apps to augment their features, but Turtle Beach’s mobile app is definitely a little less convenient than most. Probably my favorite thing about the Max is that you can keep it paired with your phone while connected to your PlayStation, Xbox, or docked Nintendo Switch via the dongle. Incredible, 40+ hour battery lets you play for weeks on end without ever thinking of charging the battery. The Turtle Beach Audio Hub app for iOS and Android phones is a modest, but useful configuration app.Somehow, the headset manages to feel a bit too heavy on the head but also quite cheap in the hands, with an overabundance of unimpressive plastic. For PC, a docked Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation (it works with the Xbox Series X, Series S, One X, One S, and both PS5 and PS4) you pair the headset with a dongle that plugs into a USB slot.
