I go from Tabby McTat being one of the few Donaldson books I had yet to read, to reading it twice within half an hour. I know Julia Donaldson has done some busking herself, so I'm not surprised she worked it into a story. Well, I'd about given up on Donaldson, but then I spotted this on the shelf and decided to pick it up. Tabby spends his time busking with Fred, that was until one fatal moring when Tabby takes a stroll and meets Sock. The book is probably more suitable for older kids, and even that, it involves themes that might not be that easy for a kid to grasp. Jodie Whittaker, the narrator of this year’s adaptation, reflects on what it means to her to be involved, how the story resonates with her own childhood, and of course, on being a cat lover!

Tabby McTat goes on to settle into his new home happily and even have kittens however does not forget the good times he shared with the busker. The illustrations themselves from Axel Scheffler are a really interesting point, as they are incredibly diverse. The film is directed by Sarah Scrimgeour and Jac Hamman, who both previously worked on Donaldson and Scheffler adaptation Superworm, and is written by Max Lang and Suzanne Lang.

Finn loves to listen to anything this lady creates, particularly The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child and A Squash and a Squeeze. The book tells the story of a buskers cat giving an insight into the world from a cats perspective - any child who has a cat as a pet will find this highly amusing. The film, for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, is adapted from the hugely successful picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

This would be a great book to read aloud at Early Years Foundation Stage and would be perfect for getting the class to join in and sing along.
