I love the lyricism of Evie Wyld and Jessica Andrews, but my favourite novelist of all time has to be Miriam Toews, who is so funny, so poetic, and so unpredictable in terms of where her stories take you. Talking at Night tells a story of sudden connections, missed opportunities, the many loves we have over a lifetime--and the one that keeps us coming back, again and again, for more. it hurts to love you but i still love you it's just the way i feel," lana wrote this lyric for will. I had shadows of scenes with Will and Rosie in my head, years before I put pen to paper, and their voices became clearer and clearer the more I listened.

The story of Will and Rosie is a classic love story in every sense, and yet, in Claire Daverley's hands, it felt entirely new. Packed with riveting drama and painful truths, this book powerfully illustrates the devastation of abuse—and the strength of the survivors. I found their actions quite selfish and left me frustrated, questioning if people would make the same choices in real life. She comes from wealth and privilege, appreciates culture and lives within a structure that has been carved out for her.Bailey’s novel delivers madcap, humorous adventures, including a delightful reunion for Trina and Octavia. Have your tissues handy for Talking at Night by Claire Daverley, a raw, extraordinary novel in which every scene aches with emotion.

This is a summer read for the die-hard romantics out there who love a book that takes them right back to the heady days of first love - and can break your heart just as irreparably. Talking at Night could be titled ‘Reading at Night,’ because I was awake through the night, turning these pages. It’s everything I want from a love story, the will they won’t they, the romance, but also, there is the truthfulness of reality woven into it. I had the backstory of so many characters, like Will and Rosie’s mothers, in my head while I was writing the book, so despite everything I have a lot of empathy for them, and the other surrounding characters. They fall for each other as teenagers; nineties music, sideways glances, sunsets and bonfires and talking late into the night.

Despite their different life goals and Rosie’s insistence that they just stay friends, their feelings intensify until a single night breaks them both and changes the entire course of both their lives. So viel gescheiterte Kommunikation, diese Schicksalsschläge, die sich immer wieder zwischen Will und Rosie drängen, immer und immer wieder die Entscheidung gegeneinander - das kann ich auf Dauer nur schwer ertragen. It’s just a beautiful book, filled with everything I look for in a novel - heart, mind, body and soul.

Insomma, “Talking at Night” è un libro che affronta molte fasi della vita, dall’adolescenza all’età adulta, e lo fa sempre in maniera matura e credibile. At first glance, we’ve met this couple before – the shy, straight-A girl who falls for the handsome, wrong-sides-of-the-track boy. In fact, I think the way she lives her life, always trying to do the right thing by everybody and not always herself, is very relatable to most women. However, if any of Rooney's novels made your skin crawl in a negative way, I’d say to stay away from this book.

this started very hopeful, i loved how it began and how it progressed but that ended real quick by the middle of part two. Insomma, una volta iniziato, “Talking at Night” è un libro difficile da mettere giù, anche se non perfetto: se Rosie è descritta con un ottimo livello di introspezione, Will invece lo è molto meno. i was dragged through HELL for the ending to be the most underwhelming, confusing, and stupidest ending in the history of endings.

Spanning decades and introducing readers to lush, complex characters whose witty dialogue reminded me of Sally Rooney’s work,Daverley’s debutis aching and tender, searing and sweet, a story about thepower of love to make even the most broken of us whole. Daverley's writing is poignant and emotional, capturing the raw intensity of young love and the longing that accompanies missed chances. I think the only way to truly capture how special this book is, is to tell you all of the things I loved about it.

When they were pregnant at the same time, they had an epic fight that destroyed both the band and their friendship. I absolutely adored Talking at Night… A gorgeous story of first love, loss, and the people who stick to your ribs, it should be on everyone’s must-read list. Then one night, another party, alcohol, a cliff edge—the unthinkable happens to these teenagers, simultaneously tearing them apart and bonding them forever in shared grief. He comes from a 'broken' home, has had his struggles with alcohol, but underneath the bravado is intelligent and kind and observant. There is love, yes, but also family, friendship, parental expectations, unrequited longing, missed opportunities, regret, tragedy, death, etc…and a roller coaster ride of feelings and emotions both heavy-hitting as well as lighthearted.
