Description

The whole book offers little detail about each killer and then a whole load of the author's personal (and often extreme) opinions about each of them. I thought I would really enjoy this book as I love watching documentaries like this on TV, but it turns out I struggled to keep focus on this book and was easily distracted. Here too are women who kill under the influence of their male partners, such as Myra Hindley and Rosemary West, and whose lack of remorse for their actions is nothing short of chilling.

titles its page about the town 'Bumble Bee Just Never Made It', so I can only assume he just glanced at the title of the page and didn't read it. As I said , it’s a pity as I did enjoy the actual stories of these women (also, be warned: it’s mostly one time killers—- considering how often he defined “serial killers” I found that to be a bit of a let down). Książka rozpoczyna serię, w której będziemy mogli przeczytać o psychopatach, królowych zbrodni oraz o najgorszych na świecie, także ja jestem bardzo zaciekawiona pozostałymi częściami. I found some of the passages to be quite sexist in refering to women as the "fairer" sex and there are a few sentences pointing towards the opinion that women are more likely than men to over react and murder for no apparent reason. The descriptions of these are very graphic so id warn the reader if you don’t have a stomach for these kind of disgusting details then id be careful whilst reading on.The serial killers mentioned were really good ones not all the over spoken about ones that you already know every detail about. as well as a constant overuse of synonyms (Why say Texas when you can constantly refer to it as “The Lone Star State”, am I right? Tę książkę nie przeczyta się ot tak od razu, jest tu tyle zła, cierpienia i krzywdy, że były u mnie momenty odłożenia na dzień lub dwa, aby odpocząć od tego. The whole book reeks of unacknowledged priviledge of this kind and I'm not the first one to suspect that it's all just one big occasion to stroke his ego to the high heavens and back. And all I can say is that while I enjoyed the content of the book, I disliked Berry- Dee’s narrative, tone of voice and at times his lack of humanity when it came to the descriptions of victims.

I actually read this book between the 22nd and 25th May 2020 so my memory is a bit foggy about all the plot lines. The audiobook itself, which is how I read this book, is okay, although I wish it was done in more of the interview style rather than the narrator just reading off the conversation with the killer - this seems like it could have been possible as there is a section at the beginning of each chapter there is a recording of the killer themselves talking, which was very interesting to listen too - other than that, the audio book was fine, and the voices the narrator used for each of the serial killers were on the ok side to listen to as well.Berry-Dee refers to the subject matters of his book with a range of charming descriptions including "overweight lump", "once attractive", "disgusting and fat" etc. The nearest we can get to answers on the Why question is by looking at the upbringing of the person and how their behaviour was growing up. The whole book is a promotion for the author's other ventures and he spends most the time stroking his own ego and talking about how everyone loves him. Despite few quotes it does not introduce the perspective or narrative of the serial killer, rather it provides author's generic view and facts you can easily find on wikipedia. But if "monster" is thrown around every five pages, you lose sight of what the person you're reading about is: a human being, not a monster, not an other-worldly thing, but a person like you and me.
