So a visit to Iceland to escape the gloom of what is known in London as “winter” was an exciting prospect. I love to cook, though I couldn't believe the amount of food he could eat, especially when he was younger. Usually I opt for comedians’ autobiographies, but I adore Stanley Tucci and requested the library purchase this months before its scheduled publication date. Why, she may think wildly, will he not treat me to spaghetti con le zucchine alla Nerano at La Scoglio on the Amalfi coast? Taste: My Life through Food," is about 40 percent dedicated to Italian cuisine, 20 percent dedicated to food from many different parts of the world, 20 percent to wonderful recipes, and 20 percent to wonderful stories.

Delicious food, passed from generation to generation, whose original roots date back centuries to peasant farmers. That being said; this simply means that Tucci is a wonderful storyteller and is able to bring a narrative visually to life. Stanley Tucci’s new memoir, Taste, is a look back at how food was the foundation, the comfort and inspiration for his life.

I came away with some great recipes, including how to make the perfect dry martini, stirred not shaken. From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen. Let’s face it, if men had to give birth, there would probably be only a total of about 47 people living on the face of the earth today as opposed to billions, and abortion clinics would be just another department in Walmart alongside auto parts, golf gear, and firearms. He lovingly describes how when he was growing up, his mother spent most of her waking time in the kitchen, which she does to this day. He has directed five films and appeared in over seventy films, countless television shows, and a dozen plays on and off Broadway.

He's that handsome, bald, Italian-American guy, with the devilish smirk, who you just know he's thinking about something good. To me, eating well is not just about what tastes good but about the connections that are made through the food itself. There’s also something about Italian food and as a batch of German/Swedes my family has been blessed to have been “adopted” by a group of traditional Italians and experienced the magnificence of Sunday gravy, a metric ton of wedding cookies, homemade bruschetta, Thanksgiving dinner that comes with meat dressing and so many other culinary delights. The whole thing was so wonderful, civilized, and strange that there is a part of me that thinks perhaps I may have just dreamed it all. You feel like you’re at the Tucci family table through his admiration for his mother’s cooking, his father’s Friday night recipes and his stories of neighbours and friends praising the meals that they could never replicate.
