The drums were more at ease, exhibiting a flair and nonchalance that Starr was known for while the new master revealed Harrison’s attacking guitar style. citation needed] Although The Beatles Box Set failed to chart in either the UK or the US, it was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. As a cutting engineer, anything of significance level above 16kHz is dangerous, you don’t want that going to your cutter head because it gets very hot and can destroy it. It sounds like they actually did take their time on the stereo mix, it sounds like a dedicated stereo mix, although I prefer the mono mix . I could post a review about how great this set is, but I’d rather share how I got the box because I still think it’s the strangest and coolest story in my vinyl collecting journey.

The same holds true for the songs " The Ballad of John and Yoko", " Old Brown Shoe" and the single mix of " Let It Be", which were also omitted.

The -1/-1 original isn’t as good as its made out to be, its congested and sounds like it has been run through sandpaper. More than that, on the earlier albums, the primitive stereo processing placed vocals on one channel and instruments on the other which meant that, “There are different EQs on the left than there is on the right because the content is different on either side. The box also contained the 1988 compilations Past Masters: Volume One and Past Masters: Volume Two, which grouped together singles, B-sides, EP tracks, and foreign releases not found on the band's UK studio albums. Even though there was no compression on these pressings the nature of the EQ – an Apple stipulation – meant that the vocals sounded slightly restricted.

The latter had been issued in the UK in November 1976, at which point the LP version superseded the original British EP of the same name. This article seems to have been written under the misconception that a digital audio sample rate of 96 or 192 kHz involves trying to reproduce an audible frequency that high. Especially with the various odd versions included and I believe the only time The Beatles allowed their songs to be available on anything other than the usual pressings bar the MFP pressings. I selected an original copy of With The Beatles (1963) which I proposed to test with the 1978, UK version of the EMI box set reissue (better sounding than the comparable USA and Australian versions and sourced direct from the master tapes) and the new 2012 copy.

The sound quality is excellent and presentation wise each album appears to be a near perfect reproduction of what was released at the time including inserts, etc. It also clarified the upper mids, adding separation to the harmonic and double tracked vocals and making each vocal part more recognisable to the ear. The Beatles in Mono is a boxed set compilation comprising the remastered monaural recordings by the Beatles.

The remastering project for both mono and stereo versions was led by EMI senior studio engineers Allan Rouse and Guy Massey. Never sure why this set is pretty much mocked and is not more desirable by Beatles fans world wide knowing the usual collecting fanaticism for anything Beatle related. The flip-back sleeves are missing for the UK 1st release covers (but would later included on The Beatles - The Beatles In Mono in 2014) and Let It Be is missing it's original box or "Get Back" book. Couple of minor issues that I found, other than the fairly poor looking covers, are "In My Life" which sounds quite muddy and "Good Day Sunshine" which suffers from sibliance on the "s" sounds during the chorus.

How the German engineers got hold of the four track masters I can‚Äôt even conjecture on that issue . The instrumental separation was not only superior but, once separated, each instrument was spotlighted and enhanced. If anything else, Mono Vinyl Box used real audio ( analogue ) master tapes - no cheating this time 'round ! The rare versions included (see note from anygreg) make this an interesting listen even for hardcore fans. Moving to Abbey Road’s Here Comes The Sun, I must say that I feared for the new version after listening to the 1978 cut.
