Perfect for PSHE topics and just to read for pleasure, it is clear to see Lisa Thompson is here to stay and I for one am overjoyed. Here we have another fantastic book from Lisa Thompson - probably my absolute favourite new author of the last few years.

The Day I Was Erased by Lisa Thompson | Waterstones

Lui non ne ha nessuna intenzione e così finisce per combinare l’ennesimo casino e, a rischio sospensione, si rifugia da Reg ed esprime un desiderio che purtroppo si avvera “Vorrei non esistere più”. Struggling to cope in a family situation that is tense, he acts out at school, pushing even his closest friends away. I also made sure we saw his softer side early on so he quickly pops round to Reg’s to make him a cup of tea! Maxwell’s future at the end of the book isn’t a complete happy ending but it’s happy enough to reassure any reader that life carries on and that everyone can make a difference. Thank you to the lovely staff and year 7 and 8 pupils of Thomas Mills High for welcoming me into their school in Framlingham last week.

At first, being able to walk around without being yelled at isgreat, but Maxwell starts to miss his old life. I know that time in the classroom is precious and sometimes reading can get forgotten, but I think just reading to them for 10-15 minutes a day can have a profound effect. He is not always the kindest and doesn`t make the best choices sometimes, but I think it`d be impossible not to sympathise with him as you read because he has a heart of gold deep down (his relationships with Reg and Monster melted me) and his behaviour makes perfect sense when you hear his reasons for doing certain things/examine the subtext.

With nods to that classic Hollywood movie It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), where the central character is given a chance to see what the world would be like if he had never been born, The Day I was Erased is a story of family, the nature of friendships, and finding your place in the world. The story will certainly help in opening conversations with children about bullying and the ways to handle it. At first, being able to walk around without being yelled at is great, but Maxwell starts to miss his old life. I have heard of teachers lighting a ‘Light Jar’ and dimming the lights when they read The Light Jar and also playing music around particular scenes. What would they change, how might it feel to start over again and how can they show kindness to others?

Once your child has discovered a new book we invite them to create their own online Reading Den and fill a bookshelf of their own.I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Maxwell, a boy who is a consistent troublemaker and seeks to make others miserable.

My Longer Read of the Week: The Day I was Erased My Longer Read of the Week: The Day I was Erased

This is because it was sad when one of the main characters (Reg), begins reminising about his wife (Emily), who had died due to an uncureable illness. He learns that although he can’t justify his terrible behaviours of the past he can make amends and make others understand why he behaves in such ways. And suddenly, he realizes that, if he never existed, then his beloved dog wouldn’t exist either… because it was Maxwell who had saved the dog from certain death. I am no longer using Twitter/X but will still be posting updates on Instagram, Threads and Facebook. Accidentally, he finds himself erased from his life while looking through some mysterious contents in a cabinet at a neighbour's house.en het aan het lezen zijn van David Arnolds 'Noah Hypnotik' (YA over een jongen die na een hypnose-poging rimpelingen in de werkelijkheid ervaart - briljant boek). However, i found it quite funny because he is going around telling everyone their personal secrets yet they think of him as a stranger. With family troubles at home, a looming divorce and friendship issues, Maxwell feels misunderstood and starts to wish that he was never born.
