i really like that this isn't a sweetie-pie story where all the good fluffy kitties are okay and all the nasty kitties get punished. However, Varjak's members believe that there is hope and Holly, who had to face a terrible drop from a wire, done the impossible and survived came back and gave Varjak some more confidence. in the sequel, he learns how to fight a mental game - the psychological tactics that keep a cat alive in a tough world.

As of March 2006, Varjak Paw has been optioned by The Jim Henson Company to be developed as an animated family feature film, with Faith Fawusi as director. Razor says ever since Varjak had beaten him in a fight alongside with showing mercy, he wished Varjak for a boss instead of Sally Bones. Even though Tam suggests that Varjak and the two of them could become friends, Holly runs off, saying that she cannot trust anyone, Tam at her heels. My favourite character from the book was Jalal (Varjak Paw’s ancestor who taught him the seven skills in the way of himself) because he always made Varjak think but he did not defeat Sally Bones.

I prefer this book, as there is far less need for scene-setting: Varjak Paw has already moved from his life as a pampered housecat into the rough and dangerous city streets, already created his little gang of friends, so the entire book is focused on his mission to right wrongs and to make the city's cats free again. The Scratch Sisters think its crazy and disagree to go there as it could end up having everyone killed, but end up agreeing after everyone persuades them. I don't find writing easy - Varjak Paw took me 5 years, and Phoenix took 7 - but all the hard work feels worthwhile when I hear from readers like yourself. SF Said is the author of award-winning children’s books including Tyger, Phoenixand Varjak Paw – which featured in BookTrust’s list of 100 Best Children’s Books from the last 100 Years, and has been adapted for stage as well as studied as part of the national Key Stage 2 curriculum . Because umm a long time ago I once had a Human Warrior Character named Varjak and I was surprised that the name was used, I am not mad about this because I know alot of people have also used the name too.

Varjak likes the plan, although he feels guilty that he had led them here when he does not even have the Way to fight back against Sally Bones.It's expertly paced and structured and builds and builds to a remarkably exciting and tense third act finale.
