About this deal

While I liked the characters of Katja and Daniel, I never felt the chemistry between them and their romance felt a bit forced. Tessa Harris's writing is a delight to immerse in, and I look forward to exploring both her backlist and any new works she may offer. In 2005 she was made editor of the Berkshire Life magazine, as well as becoming literary publicist for a documentary making company as well. Katja soon will learn that she is typing some notes about a patient who was treated during ww1, learning everything about the mental health of such a patient, understanding now how terrible Hitler's mental health was for the world and his agenda.

Investigating the disappearance of the sole survivor of an ill fated scientific expedition, he finds he must uncover what has really been going on. If this notebook was real, if used in the right way early on might have made a big difference at the start of WW 2. Tessa Harris's prose effectively conveys the oppressive atmosphere of Nazi-controlled Hamburg and the impending threat of the invasion of France.

As with books that I truly love, I decided to savour this one and split it over several weekends, all the more to soak up the authentic period detail and the joy of reading about characters who do what it right, not what is easy. The historical content and implications of something like this was really fascinating and will give readers a lot to think on and process. Many thanks to NetGallery and HarperCollins UK Audio for allowing me to get a copy of this enlightening novel. She finds work at Dr Viktor medical Clinic as his personal assistant and typist of his patients medical records. The love story between Katja and Daniel is particularly compelling, as it emerges from the shared grief of lost family members, akin to the phoenix rising from the ashes of their sorrow. The notes in his possession declare Hitler unfit for office – a secret that could destroy the Führer’s reputation, and change the course of the war if exposed.
