It's mainly centered around Lowrie discovering secrets about her world, and her coming to terms with being one of the last humans. Shortly thereafter, Steve Hackett left to join the progressive rock group Genesis as lead guitarist. As a reader I feel like there are so many stories that hadn’t been told in that kind of setting – after the angst of the apocalypse, when you’re not necessarily trying to rebuild the world but live a good, happy life in the time you have left. This alone proves that The Quiet Earth is a very uncommon after-the-fall film written by Lawrence, with Bill Baer and Sam Pillsbury (who also produced), loosely based on the 1981 novel by Craig Harrison and directed by Geoff Murphy ( Young Guns II, Under Siege 2 and Fortress 2).

This story is very character driven and I loved getting to know Lowrie and Shen, the last two humans to be born. It can be a confronting read, and this is what makes the read so worthwhile; it’s a chance to admit what truly gives us worth, both as an individual and as a species. Now in the year 2109 and with the population of the world so small the last people have all congregated in central London, UK, to form there own little family and to protect the last two humans there will ever be on the Earth. You can't exist if you're trying to get back to an environment or culture or climate that's changed. It took a while for the story to really take off, but when it did, it was one surprising twist after the other, some of them amusing (wait until you find out Lowrie's last name!

It is an encyclopaedia of everything humankind values, and it prompt the reader to reflect on what it is they value, and how they too might react if this was to happen to them.They said "A controlled yet elegantly light touch makes The Quiet at the End of the World a credible, hugely rewarding read. Peel away all the treasure-hunting and lighthearted conversations, and the affectionate banter between children and parents, and close connections with an ageing community who dote on the two last teenagers in their midst – or anyone’s midst for that matter; Lowrie and Shen are it and the final countdown to humanity’s irreversible end is in train – and you find two young people, Lowrie especially, who are acutely aware of what is expected of them and what they must to keep civilisation ticking along, at least for 70 to 80 years, or however long they live. Her writing has been described as ‘gripping romantic sci-fi’ by the Wall Street Journal and ‘a strange, witty, compulsively unpredictable read which blows most of its new YA-suspense brethren out of the water’ by Entertainment Weekly. I wasn’t really satisfied with the ending I had high expectations, but I can’t say that it was a bad book.
