Douglas second love was psychology since she loves understanding the motivations and drives of people. Is she being paranoid and will she ever get her husband to tell her the secrets he has been keeping or will the past and its lies come back to haunt them? If I see one more book with the review/tagline of "for fans of Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train" I am purposely going to not read it. This flowed from the page like the fastest running river you can imagine, as we jump between Abi and Bea and their thoughts and perceptions – but who is lying, who is truthful, is one of them mad, perhaps even both or is something else entirely going on? There are quite a few novels around this year that focus on siblings and family dynamic, this is one of the best I’ve read for sheer depth of perception and I really do highly recommend it.It was never forced in your face but it was there and as someone who suffers from and advocates for mental health, it was good to see. Her reading obsession continued throughout her teenage years when she studied both English Language and English Literature at college.
