Description

The illustrations are very detailed and the words just flow across the illustrations without being distracting to the eyes. Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc. The underground scenes include tunnels and pipes, creatures' burrows, layers of rock, and the planet's molten core, each running seamlessly into the next.

The illustrations were done in a very unique style, and each little aspect added to the greater picture well. Look, I know it's a kid's book, but what I like to see in children's non-fiction is enough accuracy and realism to lead to probing questions or to at least foster some curiosity. The positioning of the text, which requires us to hold the book at a 90 degree angle and read down the double page spread, brilliantly creates an impression of depth. The journey through the the different layers was done from two different points of view, one from the city side with all the pipes and wires and on the opposite side from a mole hole through various animal homes, fossils, and magma. The children look at the vocabulary associated with the underground and earth and retrieve information as well as start to make some simple inferences.

Echt, mijn vriend en ik waren helemaal verbaasd vooral omdat er niet een einde aan leek te komen toen we hem uitklapten. It was a story that was usually told to begin a unit that was intending to pique the students' curiosity. The book provides some interesting information about the earths core, carefully integrating some scientific words for the children to begin to understand. The painted, stenciled, and collaged illustrations are full-bleed, and the tones graduate pleasantly from light colors at the surface of the Earth to rich pinks, yellows, and oranges as readers near the Earth’s core. Mixing urban and rural settings, covering subjects such as geology, archaeology and natural history, The Street Beneath My Feet offers children the opportunity to explore their world through a detailed learning experience. The descent into the ground and the ascent back to the surface cover different information, so there’s always something new to read about. At the end of the first oversize eleven pages of layers, the reader then goes back through he other side of the fold-out pages, continuing to discover more layers of information.

Friendly but information-rich text explains the features of the different layers, from the pipes and wires that support our civilisation to old bones, underground rivers, coal mines. A 2018 Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students: K-12 (National Science Teachers Association and the Children's Book Council) A 2018 American Library Association (ALA) Notable Children's Book - All Ages A double-sided foldout book extending to eight feet in length, The Street Beneath My Feet takes you on a wondrous illustrated journey deep underground through every layer of the Earth. We zien fossielen, mooie stenen, wortels, metro, dieren die een holletje hebben, we zien hoe dun sommige lagen van de aarde zijn. In this title that was first introduced as a customizable, personalized print-on-demand product, Rox has a superpower. Arriving in pieces from some mechanistic version of Ikea, little Flange turns out to be a cute but complicated tyke who immediately falls apart…and then rockets uncontrollably about the room after an overconfident uncle tinkers with his basic design. This is an informative fascinating book describing-the many layers of earth and what "lies beneath our feet"! The reverse side of the poster takes up back up through the magma, then seams of minerals, limestone, fossils and finally back into the light, this time countryside rather than city street.

The text is informative, if lacking in poetry, including such nuggets as “earthworms are expert recyclers, eating dead plants in the soil. Throughout the book, it goes into detail a few main parts of things below the ground that effects the above ground world. Wiesner’s robots display his characteristic clean lines and even hues but endearingly look like vaguely anthropomorphic piles of random jet-engine parts and old vacuum cleaners loosely connected by joints of armored cable. This book easily gets 5 stars because of its overall interaction and the ability to be visually appealing to the younger generation. Though Rox knows that there’s a high potential for her creation to rebel, the perks outweigh any potential adverse effects. The underground scenes include tunnels and pipes, creatures' burrows, layers of rock and the planet's molten core, and run seamlessly into the next. Charlotte and Yuval’s follow-up title, The Skies Above My Eyes, continues with the innovative concertina format of their first book, this time looking up at the sky and universe above us. To show the entire journey to the Earth’s core at once we need to spread the book out on the floor and both sides together measure about 5 metres long. it's almost as if his style was not the right one for the subject here (though simply lovely for plants and flowers and living things).
