All three actors’ turns come together, however, for a massively successful overture across the stage.

On closer inspection, it’s a moving and shrewdly humorous tale about two friends in 1980s New York who are terrified of life and loss in the big, cold world. Jessica doesn’t feel that she can trust Warren after he’s revealed their affair, but whom can she trust?And then there’s biting and kissing and touching and suddenly someone starts beating on me, I mean, just pounding on me and growling. Still, under Shapiro's patient guidance, this Youth is intermittently funny and poignant -- and provides a timely reminder that when our economy and culture are fractured, even the young and well-off suffer.

We first meet Dennis Ziegler (the outstanding and alluring Kieran Culkin) as he sits, zoned out, in front of a television set in his dumpy studio apartment on the Upper West Side. Each month we work on scenes and monologues with a beautiful, supportive, inspiring group of actors. Ever since he grew a cult fan base as frozen-in-the-headlights teen George Michael Bluth on Arrested Development, then starred in a series of instant-classic indie comedies ( Juno, Superbad), Cera has managed to appear both fetally unguarded and crushed by the weight of the world (a millennial Charlie Brown).Projecting to the balcony is undoubtedly disquieting, but her expansive compensation robs the performance of her inherent charisma that will likely grace big stages with greater satisfaction in future years. It’s 1982, and Dennis has posters of Richard Pryor and “The Honeymooners” on his wall, along with a photograph of Louis Armstrong—tricksters all. And want to put themselves in you even if you’re not ready and maybe those aren’t the right boys either but at least they need you for a few minutes.
