To clean your pet's ears: Never use cotton buds to clean your pet’s ears, you could do some serious damage. Unfortunately the ear canal in both cats and dogs is long and curved, on top of this some breeds have thick hair growing in the canal itself making it the perfect environment for bacteria and parasites. TREATMENT Simply dust thornit lightly onto the skin and for dogs with longer coats, just part the hair with a comb and feed a trickle onto the skin. As you can see from this I am it's biggest fan, Ideally it should not be put near eyes and should not be ingested, but i have never had any problems even if dogs do lick a little, they soon stop cause I guess they don't much like the smell or taste. I believe thornit is good for preventing it or at the early signs of a problem but my puppys ears were quite bad.

You can carry on using for a little longer for up to 10 days but if the problem hasn't been resolved by then it probably isn't canker or mites and you would need to speak to your vet again. I use the cotton wool pads, dip them in the saline, squeeze them out so there's just a bit of moisture in there, and always pull the muck out away from the inside the ear flap. That being said, I swear by Thornit, having had one of my gang go through veterinary treatment for an infected lug, which did no good whatsoever. Zinc oxide is also added as a drying and curing agent that helps irritation and to stop the itch cycle. I see you guys saying it can be used for other things though which gets me wondering; Tia is also having problems with a chronic chin infection (yep, that's on the long-ignored list too), at the moment we're not sure what's causing it - might be food sensitivities but given that Wagg is supposed to be the one food that it settles on I'd be surprised if it's that.Otoact Ear Cleaner Solution 100ml is a gentle ear cleaner for dogs and cats that have a heavy wax build up. I know the main ingredient in AFP is boric acid and was just wondering what the main constituent of Thornits is. It is part of most Cavalier breeders grooming regime that after they have brushed/combed the entire ear feathering a small pinch of Thornit is added to both ears. The wax (well brown yukky stuff) seems definitely to be drying up slightly, but there is still a lot of moisture when I massage his ear.

Thornit works by drying out the canker so we wouldn't recommend washing out his ears as you are wetting the powder. One of the most common causes of dogs' itching and scratching their ears and other parts of their body is mites. Any ideas of help would be much appreciated and also if you think that Thornit is okay for a lhasa apso could you please let me know where I can get it from as I dont recognise the name UK Toy. If the animal pulls it’s bottom on the floor, and it is not gland trouble, the mites could have made a breeding bed under the tail. When my vets asked what I used on Roo's ears they said 'no wonder it improves, zinc is fantastic at fixing x, y, z etc etc'. No word of a lie within 3 days the soreness and redness in her ear disappeared and in less than 3 weeks her ear was totally back to normal and did not reoccur EVER.

I use it very sparingly, a little bit on the end of a spoon just tipped into the opening of the lug and the ear then massaged.

VetUK Ear Cleaner is a specially designed solution with a mild and pH balanced formula to routinely clean your pet’s ears. If your pet is pulling its bottom on the floor and it is not a gland problem, then mites may be breeding under the tail. This may involve sedating your dog to take swabs and at the same time, flush out as much muck as possible.
