The tale has become a symbol and a shorthand for the spurned outsider whose virtues are ignored by the world, only for them to transform into a successful person at a later date.

The duckling moves away from the community, travels distant places, survives all the torments and struggles to find where he belongs. The miserable duckling has given up on life by this point, and decides to throw himself into the path of the large swans and be killed, so he cannot be abused and rejected for being ‘ugly’ any more. This baby’s beak was a little too long, his feathers were a little too scruffy, and his face was a little too ugly!

The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen | Goodreads

Lind] inspired at least partly two of his best-known children's stories, The Ugly Duckling and The Emperor's Nightingale [sic]. With keen emotion and fresh vision, the acclaimed artist captures the essence of the tale's timeless appeal: The journey of the awkward little bird -- marching bravely through hecklers, hunters, and cruel seasons -- is an unforgettable survival story; this blooming into a graceful swan is a reminder of the patience often necessary to discover true happiness. It might be silly, but all I heard in this tale was everyone saying he was ugly, he deciding to hide in sadness and despair until something (he didn't do anything) improved on its own and he was happy. At least, that’s one way to analyse the tale – but is its meaning actually a little more complex than its straightforward plot, and seemingly straightforward moral, suggest? He spends a miserable winter alone in the outdoors, mostly hiding in a cave on the lake that partly freezes over. The story ends with two morals: ‘To savor happiness one needs to go through hardships’ and ‘No matter what your past is, your present defines you and determines your future’. He is shocked when the swans welcome and accept him, only to realize by looking at his reflection in the water that he had been, not a duckling, but a swan all this time. but few years later braces became a trend, even for people who didn’t need it (which is weird for me).

He decides to throw himself at a flock of swans, feeling that it is better to be killed by such beautiful birds than to live a life of ugliness. Although ‘ The Snow Queen’, ‘ The Emperor’s New Clothes’, ‘ The Little Mermaid’, and ‘The Ugly Duckling’ have the ring of timeless fairy stories, they were all original tales written by the Danish storyteller in the mid-nineteenth century. The mother duck was soon convinced that he was her very own as she watched him in the the water, his little feet paddling away beneath him, "Look at those legs go!Speculation suggests that Andersen was the illegitimate son of Prince Christian Frederik (later King Christian VIII of Denmark), and found this out some time before he wrote the book, and then that being a swan in the story was a metaphor not just for inner beauty and talent but also for secret royal lineage. The Ugly Duckling" ( Danish: Den grimme ælling) is a Danish literary fairy tale by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875). He was growing larger; his feathers were coming in and the ugly duckling was able to fly off the ground. It is emotional and touching as you see what the duckling goes through, and many kids can relate to that. Before the duckling could waddle off the geese surrounded him and the father goose said, “Though you are quite strange looking you may stay with us!
