The growth of the gin-dustry truly shows no signs of slowing down, with new releases popping up left, right and centre. It comes in a beautiful bottle that makes you think of Italian summers and is crafted with 100% home-grown Italian ingredients: Moscato grapes, carefully selected Italian botanicals, ripe peaches, elderflower and apricots. Muddle a handful of blackberries and lemon wedges in the pitcher jug, then add ice and pour over the gin. If pear is not your favourite flavour, another fruit liqueur can be used – peach or apricot work well. Given that this gin is part of the Diageo portfolio I am surprised that it isn’t more readily available.

It is the ultimate gin to be shared and savoured with family and close friends who enjoy good food and good drinks. You can make your own ginger cordial by combining 250g caster sugar, 250g of water and a few slices of fresh ginger, and bringing to a simmer. Moscato grapes (the Italian name for Muscat grapes) are local to the region and have sweet flavours of peach and orange blossom. It’s gin portfolio includes covers The Good (Tanquerey), The Bad (Gordon’s) and the Ugly (Gilbey’s). Diageo was formed in 1997 by the merger of the Guiness Brewery and leisure conglomerate “Grand Metropolitan”. They’re harvested in August and September, when the fruit is at its best, before undergoing three distillations. We distil our gin using only Italian ingredients creating the highest quality liquid and clarity of flavour. Villa Ascenti Gin is rooted in provenance and brings local, fresh ingredients from Piemonte to life.
To serve, pour over ice then top up each drink with soda water, or ginger beer for a fun bit of spice. To make a pitcher for four, you need 160ml gin, 80ml lime juice, 80ml sugar syrup and 160ml fresh mint tea, which you brew in advance then leave to cool. The expression is distilled with peaches, apricots, elderflower, hazelnut, achillea, Brachetto grapes and Tuscan juniper berries.
