The Society has never set out to be a ‘collector’ of his books or memorabilia; it is not in our constitution. One of the most unique features of this book is that each fell page contains the accurate OS Grid References for the peaks. After deciding the spelling mistake on the front cover wasn’t an issue in the grand scheme of things I decided to keep the book!

It contains 214 accurately designed, high detailed tables to help you log data each time you complete one of the Wainwright peaks.In 2014, it was agreed that the Society should however embark on a project to acquire a copy of every one of AW’s published items, the purpose of which was to try to ensure that a copy of his work was available for the future. g. a foreword, an introduction, or the inclusion of drawings which had not been reproduced in his other publications) we included these in our project.

Each peak has it’s own dedicated page in the book, and this latest edition has chapters to them all listed by region as well as ‘tick off’ maps once you complete them! Being a keen walker who ahs done the Wainwrights, I was initially chuffed - then I notice the very title 'Record Highland Advetures' - um, spot the mistake. The publication list below covers the items in the project and is believed to be a complete bibliography as well as some other relevant publications which include original material by AW. Alfred Wainwright is probably best known for his Guidebooks but, when the total bibliography is inspected, his writing and, particularly his drawings are seen to be of at least equal importance.The aesthetic is all wrong, more appropriate for a handbook on computer programming, The entry details themselves are well thought out, though, just what we walkers tend to prioritize, and all 214 fells are spelt correctly. We were not interested in which edition or impression was involved although the aim was to acquire a copy which was un-amended from his original publication.

Each log book page allows you to record your journey, including ascent and descent times, distance, weather conditions, local pub (and what you rate it! The pictures here show the main items of the collection in a display and after they were lodged with Peter Eyre at the Cumbria Archive. I am disappointed that I am now past the refund window but I will have to purchase a new book as this one is pretty useless! His reputation and the popularity of his work has of course led to numerous other books which are based on his achievements and story.All books were wrapped in protective material and stickers placed on the inside cover acknowledging who had donated the book where appropriate. The final collection was passed to Cumbria Archive in October 2014, less than six months from the start of the project. Each page has a QR code for your mountain which you scan with a smartphone so you can find out more information about that particular mountain. This log book contains all 214 of the Wainwright famous peaks, the ever popular challenge is to climb all of them!
