About this deal

Music can play a key role in a film or TV series as the use of songs can help add just the right feeling to each scene or set piece. I particularly found the dialect very refreshing especially the way people spoke rather than the diversity of Cockney versus Country speak. It seemed as if the picture I had in my head of the characters had been projected onto paper and been put in the story.

I loved this story because I have learnt much about World War 2, so it was really interesting hearing a story of some kids that were actually there. September, 1939: At the breakout of the Second World War , ten-year-old Shirley is sent away on a train. This book is very good and I would change nothing about it, what I thought was especially good was that even when you get to the last chapter you can't predict how it is going to finish. Jacqueline Wilson has written a lot of stories, and Wave Me Goodbye is one of her most recent books. The history in this book was very realistic; it made me feel like I was the one being evacuated, and I now know more about World War Two evacuees than I did before reading this book. Exciting events happen at the 'Red House' and Shirley starts to enjoy her time there, even though Mrs Waverley is really rather weird. I really enjoyed Wave Me Goodbye because Jacqueline Wilson used different vocabulary and included some great Victorian language. I think the saddest bit in the story is when Shirley departs on the train, and she leaves her mum waving at her on the platform. Pak přišla na scénu Jessika, u které se mi zdálo, že se občas trochu povyšovala, ale jinak byla hodná.

Eventually, Shirley and both boys are reluctantly taken in by two older women who live in a rundown house on the outskirts of the village. Shirleyin táta byl snad nejrozumnější postava v celé knize, protože dokázal Kevinovi dát chuť do života a byl hrozně moc milý. My favourite character in the whole book was Shirley with her love for books and her eager-to-impress attitude. Certain sections of this book are very emotional, such as when Shirley has run away to find a special visitor at her house (you'll have to read the book to find out what I mean! As well as winning many awards for her books, including the Children's Book of the Year, Jacqueline is a former Children's Laureate, and in 2008 she was appointed a Dame. Its probably one of my favourite books and not only was it a good story, but it also is very educational. The stories of people that were evacuated are so extraordinary because some children were desperately unhappy; some sort of jogged along somehow and some kids had the time of their life and didn’t even want to go home. At a time in life when most people are taking it easy, Jacqueline is a literary powerhouse and shows no sign of slowing down. Jacqueline continued writing throughout her two-year, thrice-weekly dialysis treatments and says: “If you happen to be in hospital or having some kind of treatment, a wonderful way of diverting yourself – even better in a way than reading a book – is writing a book. Must have been incredibly difficult to be separated from your parents at such a young age with no idea whether you'd see them again.

I’d tried to give it back to him when he went to join the army, but he said I could keep it as a lucky mascot. When they got her the tunic I thought of what she would look like and she looked horrendous in the clod hoppers and shirt. My favourite character is Shirley Smith (The main character) she loves books and can't put them down (like me).

Jacqueline is also a great reader, and has amassed over 20,000 books, along with her famous collection of silver rings.

Když Shirley přijela na venkov, tak mi ji bylo vážně strašně líto, jak si ji nikdo nevybral, přitom nechápu proč. You haven’t got any stout shoes apart from your Wellingtons, and you’d look a right banana in those, seeing as it’s sunny. I was super excited to read this book and it fulfilled my dreams of it being a great book once again from Jacqueline. Shirley was an evacuee from London and was sent with her school to the countryside to avoid the bombing from Germany. My favourite character of all was Shirley ( Louise Smith) because she was very brave, funny and nice also as she stuck up for people she didn’t really like (Kevin, who was one of the children she was put with). This book made me want to find out more about this period in history and read more books by this author. It always surprises me how well Wilson manages to communicate the feelings of younger children; the characters are very relatable, even now I'm 24! Smaller child, rather disgusting in some way, of whom the protagonist nevertheless becomes quite fond - check.
