Description

Once we read part of the book, I would let students look at it on their own time, and do a writing activity. The tiniest everyday changes can make all the difference to ensure our beautiful planet stays lush and teeming with life. Beyond the core data metrics from waste generation to disposal, the report provides information on waste management costs, revenues, and tariffs; special wastes; regulations; public communication; administrative and operational models; and the informal sector. The author starts the book by telling the reader that humans are creating more waste than ever and challenges the reader by saying the power is in our hands to make a difference.

What A Waste | DK UK

There’s been a lot of great coverage and hopefully lots of people have made some changes and are trying to create less waste. A read-aloud of this book could be followed by a discussion about the conservation measures listed within the book and even some other ways students could identify that could help these issues as well. We only get one Earth, so we have to do everything we can to take care of it, or we will have nowhere left to survive. A Global Snapshot of Solid Waste Management to 2050 includes global, regional, and urban trends on solid waste management from technical and operational trends to environmental and social impacts. As the teacher, I can create an anticipation guide prior to students reading this book or students can create Semantic Feature Analysis as they read about new topics.I think it would be really cool to have each student focus on a different section of the book and create their own graphic, each student could share their section with the class so that most topics got shared with the whole group! The reason the age range is so large is because parents could read a few pages at a time to younger kids and explain/discuss the concepts, while older kids closer to 12 could read the book on their own and understand everything without an adult.

What A Waste | DK Learning - dkbooks

When I spotted the new children’s book What A Waste by DK Books, I knew it was something that I wanted to read with my daughters. Solid waste management affects every single person in the world, whether individuals are managing their own waste or governments are providing waste management services to their citizens.

This book provides children with various ways of how they can keep their environment clean and safe while also including facts on what would happen if they did not acknowledge their actions and how it would negatively affect their environment/planet Earth. There are more words on the page than I expected to be but it is still manageable for upper elementary students to read independently. and is aware that our family is trying to be eco-friendly and that we are reducing our waste and plastic consumption. Did you know that every year we produce enough rubbish to fill a line of lorries going around the world 24 times?

I love that this book highlights the importance of collective action and individual responsibility in protecting the planet. I love how this books teaches the readers what to do about this environmental issue and how we are the one's that can make this change to protect Earth. The plot revolves around the animals coming together to clean up their home and spread awareness among humans about the harmful effects of waste on the environment.

I think that is awesome that this book was even made from responsibly sourced materials because it shows just how recycling can protect our planet. Discover why we need forests and learn about the threat to the orangutan population with the loss of their habitat. These people produce so little waste over the course of a year that it is actually hard to believe it’s true. Illustrations, diagrams, photos, captions and text boxes highlight the startling reality of the problem with waste. The detailed illustrations capture the beauty of the ocean and its inhabitants, as well as the negative impact of waste on their environment.
