To date, 29 artefacts found in the Veneto Region with preserved, mineralised textile traces have been recorded and analysed. This study provides new data regarding textile production and the funerary rituals, offering for the first time a picture of textiles produced in the area. The plumarius according to standard lexica was an embroiderer; but the lack of written and archaeological evidence for embroidery in the classical world makes that interpretation unlikely. Establishing her allotment garden as a source of materials for her work has provided a space where Alice can experiment, exploring the potential of what grows there, planted and wild, as well as other materials found on the plot. Wild Textiles – Alice Fox

After the site became sacred, traditions developed that were associated with the holy eatures of the water and its curative properties. Anthropological evidence indicates that the individuals were probably Egyptian in origin, while structural analysis of the skulls proved that some were Nubian.One cannot make a credible ex cathedra statement: there are too many variables, reflecting differing geographical and climatic situations, changing economic conditions, chronology and, not least, the preconceptions of the person raising the question'. Alice was commissioned by the clothing company TOAST and Kettles Yard, Cambridge for their Re-New project in 2019. In this new book, she encourages crafters to be open minded and experimental, using local (and sometimes) unconventional materials, working with the seasons and learning what materials are available at different times of year to ground artists in natural cycles and integrate creative activity with a strong sense of place and character. The textiles are made of linen and cotton, sometimes decorated with wool tapestry, brocade and selfbands. In her book Wild Textiles, artist Alice Fox shows how to work with found, foraged, gathered and grown materials.
