About this deal

The 19 -year-old appeared before Mold Crown court on Tuesday, wearing a grey sweatshirt and joggers, as eight men and four women were sworn in ahead of his trial beginning today.

A post-mortem examination discovered he had been murdered by blunt trauma to the skull, and examinations of his teeth and specialist radio carbon dating found the man was born before 1950.The fatal act being published on social media is shocking and must have been horrific for those who witnessed what had happened. Despite an intensive police investigation the killer of the 39-year-old teacher, has never been found. After quitting teaching three years ago, Simon began work on the DI Ruth Hunter series, publishing three at the start of 2020, and four more since. All feature DI Ruth Hunter, whose character transferred to North Wales Police after almost 25 years with the London Metropolitan.

As a result of the second investigation a further police sergeant was referred to North Wales Police for consideration of a misconduct hearing. But the 19-year-old defendant, from Chester Road in Wrexham, has denied murder, with barrister Gordon Cole QC telling the court that Jones heard voices in his head telling him to harm people because of his deteriorating mental health. Jones had filmed videos of himself and the victim drinking, where Jones can be seen making stabbing gestures towards the victim whilst his back was turned. His killing spree began in September 1995 with the stabbing of retired railway worker Roberts, 56, who lived in semi-isolation in a cottage in Caergeiliog, Anglesey. But the killer was not found, and in 2009 it was announced that the investigation would cease unless new evidence was submitted. However, following advances in DNA technology, North Wales Police said it would carry out a forensic review. A well-known actress is keen to take the lead role, but until this is confirmed I can’t reveal who she is.

The 19-year-old is appearing at Mold Crown court for the start of what is expected to be a two week trial. The solicitors are discussing moving the trial back as the case cannot proceed without this expert in court. On 14 March 2017, Nicholas Churton reported a robbery at his home address in Wrexham that had happened two days previously (12 March 2017). He also overheard the defendant say: I’ve stabbed someone, he’s dead” and “what am I going to do now? He claims to have grabbed the knife with his left hand and manipulated it so he was holding the handle - but he has to say that, doesn't he? Police have always believed there are witnesses who could hold the key to solving the case, but have yet to come forward.
