I’m personally a fan of the rosewood color, though they all look fabulous and you can decide which one you like best. In duo mode, the pedal functionality changes as well, with the soft and damper pedals applying sustain to one side each, and the sostenuto pedal applying sustain to both sides simultaneously. You would think, hey why didn’t they upgrade this as well, as you can find on other new models from Yamaha, for example, the Yamaha YDP-184. They also have plastic keys without the ebony and ivory feel tops, but the risk of your fingers sliding off the keys when playing longer is reduced by the matte finish.

Smart Pianist scans the audio songs loaded in your Music Library, analyzes the chord progressions and then displays them for you on the screen of your smart device. When I compared the Roland FP-30 vs Yamaha P125, I said that I think the sound of the modeled FP-30 is superior. The cost, usually would be a lesser sound quality, implying a lower all around piano playing experience. Discovering that they fitted the YDP-144 with the CFX sound engine was really a very pleasant surprise.

Yamaha used to install the CFX sound engine on their Clavinova line, which is superior to the Arius line of which the YDP-144 is a part of). This feature is not exclusive to Yamaha and although it can be a useful feature, it also isn't used very often unless you have 2 people in the same home or a teacher-student in-home lesson or in a church, school, etc, with 2 people practicing the same song and they want to practice together at the same time hearing the same notes even though they are playing in different octaves.

With the update to the YDP-line of instruments, Yamaha implemented their CFX sound sampling, which was previously a hallmark of the CLP-series digital pianos. Enjoy the piano more with Smart Pianist, a dedicated app that adds a beautiful graphic interface and a variety of incredible features to your compatible Yamaha digital piano.

p.s I’m from India where the climate is very humid and my palm gets sweaty, I’m using a Arturia minilab MK2 controller for couple of year the keys are plastic and get sticky after 30 mins of use) just wanted to let u know of my life conditions, so if u would be able to give me an apt choice! Some of the functions discussed here are not accessible via the Smart Pianist app, but in general, those are some lesser used options which you won’t commonly need. If I plug at YDP 164 directly into the laptop with a special USB-C dongle/converter, will this dampen or hinder the quality at all? This is a very similar experience to a real acoustic piano, and I strongly believe that everyone can learn to like these. The piano pedals on all 3 models provide a relative good pedal playing experience for students and piano players by offering all 3 pedal functions including the damper-sustain pedal, the middle sostenuto pedal which few people use anymore (it's really more decorative at this point), and the left soft pedal which reduces volume of the played notes instantly when using this pedal.
