In view of the fact that this material has been discussed before and pretty much universally found to be wanting, I would regard it as irresponsible to suggest that the material is in anyway suitable for his application.

You did indeed, but my point was that you then also answered another question that had not been asked. I beg to differ. I had a minor leak and it did cure it. The van was still dry when sold some years later. I really didn`t want to reply again, BUT, I thought the idea of a forum was to exchange views and help each other, but perhaps like Ian Dunning I am also mistaken.I most humbly apologise, but the original poster did mention a fact other than the original question. That is not my idea of helping people but I think we should let this subject return to the topic, I'm in agreement with Angus in that I believe that the whole awning rail should be removed before using new sealant. It's not a major job and it will ensure that all traces of moisture and other dirt/contaminants are removed,
