We’re moving inland now and very much keeping that sense of history as we head along Hadrian’s Wall to encounter a world famous tree. Sycamore Gap is situated in a dramatic basin that frames it perfectly and is probably one of the most photographed and painted trees in all the world. Many remember it’s appearance in the 1991 film, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, where it’s location in the film is rather off the actual mark. Ross publishes all of her works independently through Dark Skies Publishing, a publishing imprint set up and managed by Ross and her husband. [7] Personal life [ edit ] Set in Northumbria, England, the series is following the investigation of Detective Chief Inspector Ryan in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, a mix of murder and mystery peppered with a sprinkling of romance and humour. It begins with the story of Gabrielle Adams who has escaped to rural Cornwall to run a tiny bookshop and escape the horror of her life after she survives an encounter with the “Underground Killer” waiting for the Tube to arrive one day. While she thinks the picturesque cove offers her the perfect escape, a new nightmare soon unfolds. Her eleventh novel, The Infirmary, is a prequel story to the DCI Ryan series and is available as a major Audible Originals audio-drama starring Tom Bateman, Kevin Whately, Bertie Carvel, Hermione Norris and Alun Armstrong.

One of the latest series from LJ Ross, the Summer Suspense Mysteries take place in the beautiful Cornish seaside. There will be a new publication each year. The series begins with him being the only member of an elite criminal profiling unit to escape from a storm of scandal and mismanagement. He is adamant he will begin a quiet life, but a murderer loose in the beautiful hills of County Mayo, Ireland draws him into the murder investigation to aid the Garda. The Infirmary– The Prequel to Holy Island. In the stifling summer heat of 2014, a killer has been stalking the streets of Newcastle causing city-wide panic. When the officer in charge of the case turns up dead, it falls upon Detective Chief Inspector Ryan to take up the baton and find the person responsible. As of 2018, Ross lives with her husband and two children in Northumberland. Every book in the DCI Ryan series works as a standalone story, but the lives of the different characters evolve from one novel to the other. Bamburgh– When a cantankerous old woman dies at her home in the sleepy, picturesque village of Bamburgh, DCI Ryan doesn’t think much of it-except, that is, for the small matter of it having been his wife who happened to find her body. Then another body turns up amongst the sand dunes at the base of the mighty castle fortress, and he decides it can’t be a coincidence…

Cuthbert’s Way– After the dramatic theft of a priceless artefact from Durham Cathedral, the rest of the world believes that DCI Ryan and his team were able to recover and return St. Cuthbert’s cross to its rightful home. But Ryan knows the cross he recovered was a fake-far from being over, their problems are only just beginning…Holy Island murder mystery wins book prize". www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk . There were thrilling action sequences that were offset by some quieter, more poignant moments and I found myself on an emotional rollercoaster as I raced through the narrative, never quite knowing which way it was going to go next. Which leads me to that ending and the perfect set up for book 9! Having read and loved all the previous books in this series, I was thrilled to be able to read Seven Bridges. To be honest, I had been dying to read it as soon as I finished Dark Skies because LJ Ross left us all wanting to know what was going to happen. Midgley, Dominic. The Moor– When a ten-year-old girl turns up on DCI Ryan’s doorstep to tell him she’s witnessed a murder, he has no idea he’s about to step into his most spellbinding case yet. The circus has rolled into Newcastle upon Tyne, bringing with it a troupe of daring acrobats, magicians, jugglers-and one of them is a killer. Ryan and his team must break through their closed ranks to uncover a secret that has lain buried for eight years, before the killer strikes again – this time, to silence the only living witness…

Before she became an author Ross was a practicing lawyer in London. She grew up in Northumberland, England — where many of her books take place — and attended King’s College at the University of London for her undergraduate and postgraduate in law. She also studied in Paris and Florence. I am a massive fan of DCI Ryan and have been patiently waiting for this eighth book, after the last one left us wanting more. Has always LJ Ross doesn't disappoint with this belter of a story and brings us another exciting mystery. As everyone becomes a suspect, Ryan and his team get drawn further and further into the case, but for Ryan the nightmare gets closer to home than he could ever have imagined. There really is a mixture of everything going off in this book. It is also one very much about different relationships which in part makes for some emotional reading.Okay, as with the other books, the action in Seven Bridges is fast and non-stop, and the tension keeps building till the end. There were scenes that made my heart race and others where it was literally in my mouth. I imagined I was on one of those bridges with the other unsuspecting persons, unaware of the looming danger, unaware that a push of a button could end my life at any moment. If you love walking, make a break of it this summer and explore the route. There’s so many gorgeous places for an overnight stay.
