Spurlin, W. J. (2018). Queer theory and biomedical practice: The biomedicalization of sexuality/the cultural politics of biomedicine. Journal of Medical Humanities, 40(1), 7–20. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10912-018-9526-0. As a Psychotherapist part of my role is to support people to anchor themselves in what they feel is important, and maintain a sense of their truth when difficulties in mental health mean who we are takes up less space, and aspects of our selves are less enjoyable. This means making more space for our gender, and sexuality (and how these are expressed in ways that are meaningful to each person) in the process of re-integration of our selves, and our place in the world.

The Drag and Queer Years as a Means of Developing a Therapeutic Self: Bringing Street Work into the Office The importance of post-dosing integration sessions is widely recognized among psychedelic researchers, but this process can often take months or years—far beyond the timelines of clinical trials. Because of this, it may be helpful for researchers to work collaboratively with queer-affirmative practitioners to arrange appropriate aftercare if needed. Queer-affirming resources should be shared, and researchers may consider linking participants with local psychedelic societies and public queer-friendly integration circles. Since researchers and clinicians are predominantly white, heterosexual, and cisgender, we must work to amplify queer and non-white voices at every level in psychedelic spaces. The involvement of queer researchers and clinicians should also be a priority for future clinical trials involving queer participants. Steelman, S. M. (2016). Externalizing identities: An integration of narrative therapy and queer theory. Journal of Family Psychotherapy, 27(1), 79–84. https://doi.org/10.1080/08975353.2016.1136549.I’m continuously pleased with the robust and detailed work carried out in our delegated committees and with other governance activities. Queering Psychotherapy invites us to think deeply about intricate subjects in nuanced ways. [...] This book gifts us by showcasing how healing the work of a certified sexological bodyworker can be, how it is easy to unduly pathologise sex workers, intersex people’s lives from their own voice, how to live and work within the queer community, and a phenomenal new take on supervision reframed as ‘supra-vision’. Many of those topics are not written about enough, and certainly not in the depth that this book offers. It is a highly recommended read for psychotherapists at all levels.' J. Chance Czyzselska: I can’t say for sure because what idea is ever truly original? But I believe the concept of the psychotherapy textbook as conversations is uncommon. I think perhaps this is one of the reasons that it is reaching so many readers: therapists and non-therapists alike. And the fact that it is a multi-modality collection — often textbooks tend to come from a singular modality, but QP includes practitioners trained in psychoanalysis, psychodynamic and integrative psychotherapy, person-centered counseling, systemic theory and more. It felt important to value all kinds of knowledge, not just theory – which has tended to centre white, cis, heteronormative lives –but alsolesser-theorized, othered lived experiences, generated through conversations that echo the dynamism of the therapy dyad.

Not all the contributors are therapists, so it’s a real breadth of insight and experience. In terms of the themes explored in the book, I stayed clear of medical model diagnostic categories such as anxiety and depression and instead asked contributors what they wanted to speak about. I was simultaneously enlivened and brought up to date on reading through the diverse voices of contributors. This book makes an important and belated addition to our gestalt field. Anyone practising gestalt therapy with a general population today needs to read it.'
