Description

All of our coir is sourced directly from reputable suppliers and manufacturers in Sri Lanka and transported to the UK in the most eco-friendly way possible. In this way, we bring you the best quality products which are also friendly to the planet for the best possible growing results.

Watch out for reformulated compost - manufacturers frequently change the mix of ingredients they use and the fertiliser, and this is speeding up as the ban on using peat comes ever closer. We can't recommend reformulated brands because there's no guarantee the new product will perform as well as the one we tested. Always use the images above to make sure the Best Buy compost you are buying is the one we have tested. Fluff it up "When you first open your bag of Fertile Fibre, tip it out onto your potting bench and 'fluff' it up. You will be amazed how the volume increases before your very eyes." Don't compress organic compost "Don't compress the seed compost too much, just level it with a sharp tap on the potting bench and get sowing! The same goes when potting up as it makes for better water absorption." Mediterranean mix? "Are you growing Mediterranean plants or anything that requires sharp drainage? Just mix a couple of handfuls of horticultural grit in with the potting mix!" Bark is the hard, outer layer of a tree’s trunk and is often considered a waste material - but not at Fertile Fibre. Whether you’re looking to stabilise your soil with coco peat chips or line planters with coir sheets, we have a range of coir-based products for you to choose from:As part of our commitment to eco-friendly and ethical gardening, we’ve curated a range of organic garden fertilisers we know and trust. Coir coco peat discs: designed to fill a small planting container once rehydrated, these coco peat disks are a convenient option for planting roots and seeds in a planting container A question to everyone – why do we blame ourselves/the weather/anything before we point an accusing finger at an ‘organic quality’ product? The term organic quality is actually meaningless, a product can be rubbish but provided it meets standards it gets the organic quality stamp. When it comes to growing in a vegan-friendly way, having a vegan growing medium you can trust is key.

From our premium coir products to bark mulch, we’re all about finding ways to garden sustainably without harming the planet. Like all of our growing media, our multipurpose compost is peat-free and made from all-natural ingredients with no green waste. This provides a nutrient-rich growing environment for seeds, pot plants and more. Made only from certified organic coir (coco peat fibre) from Sri Lanka, vermiculite and essential nutrients, our vegan composts provide a growing medium to help all kinds of plants thrive. Plastic Free DIY Vegan Compost: certified by the Vegan Society, this plastic free compost is free from animal products and animal testing - making it 100% vegan-friendly. Also known as coco fibre or coco peat, the brown fibre is soaked, cleaned and dried before being layered and rolled out into coir sheets. These sheets are then cut to specific sizes to make coir fibre mats or thinly layered to make coir fibre bales. Formulated to optimise plant growth by providing the right conditions to suit the plant at a particular stage in its life, or for certain types of plants such as orchids, cacti or ericaceous plants. Original potting loam compost: using the same tried-and-tested organic potting compost base with added loam soil - a mix of sterilised clay, silt and sand - this organic peat-free compost helps to improve nutrient and water retention for improved drainage, making sure potted plants don’t become waterlogged
