Description

The 5-Watt LED projects pin-sharp images across the whole projection, from edge to edge. The operation is quiet, and there are three sleep timers for automatic shut-off. There's no remote, app control, or in-built speaker, but these aren't functions you'll need if all you're doing is selecting your desired disk and switching the projector on to gaze at the stars. User Friendly - The head of the Astronaut Galaxy Projector can be adjusted allowing the starry light to be displayed at any angle. This allows you to project the light on to ceiling and walls. As you can see, the star projector in this model has been cleverly integrated into the body of a space-suit-wearing astronaut. The stand resembles the moon's surface with footprints, which is where the astronaut's feet slot into to keep the astronaut upright and stable. The projections are clear and bright, and there are numerous color combinations to suit individual tastes (Image credit: Tantse Walter)

The lights are bright and vivid, and there is a fair amount of customization, but you'll need to use the supplied remote to access some of the functions (rather than being able to access them using the buttons on the device). Other star projectors on this list, namely the Bliss Lights models, offer more color combinations, but there's more than enough here to entertain yourself and your children. There is one rotation speed which is slow and soothing — there's a little bit of noise from the motor but nothing that would be distracting, and better than many models we've tested. A non-scientific star projector that adds character and a whimsical ambiance to any room.

For similar functionality, but with app control, the BlissLights Sky Lite 2.0 is worth looking at. Of course, you don't get the 'cute' astronaut figurine, but it might be more appropriate for an adult. The lights and lasers are marginally more impressive too. We first reviewed the astronaut starry sky projector in the daytime with natural light coming in through the windows. As with the models mentioned above, the 'stars' or 'nebulae' aren't at all scientific like they are in the Sega Toys Homestar Flux or the National Geographic Astro Planetarium, but are very bright and other-worldly and can be customized into various configurations and speeds. The lights and laser dots are clearly visible, and the colors are rich and easily distinguishable. Obviously, the darker the environment, the more impressive the display. The supplied remote control (which needs two AAA batteries, not included) can be used to operate the astronaut's features. You can adjust the brightness, turn the lasers on and off, and adjust the 'breathing' frequency of the lasers and nebula. You can switch the colors of the Nebula, change the speed of the Nebula's rotation and adjust the brightness of the lights. You can use the buttons on the device itself to operate some of the functions, but you'll need the remote to adjust the rotation speeds and to use the sleep timer, so don't lose it! One of the most surprising things about star projectors is perhaps just how versatile they are in 2023, with the range running the gamut from painstakingly detailed, planetarium-rivaling options that’ll make you feel like you’re lying outside, to more ambient-focused nightlights to help you sleep.

There’s no hard-and-fast rule that decides what gets a discount and what doesn’t, but based on last year's and recent releases we can make a guess. The lights and lasers shine from the astronaut's space helmet. The astronaut's head attaches to the body with a pretty strong magnet. We like that it can be connected in almost any position. The head can't be lifted off with one hand, and it stays attached when you turn it upside down, making it feel strong and sturdy. You can also pose the little arms vertically into the position you want. This projector would be most suited to a child's bedroom, just be mindful that the lasers aren't pointing directly in anyone's line of sight — pretty easy to accomplish given the positioning flexibility the magnetic space helmet allows. On top of the Bluetooth speaker, there is also in-built 'white noise' functionality, presumably to be used as a sleeping-aid first and foremost. There's a catalog of 19 different sounds from a cow moo-ing and a dog barking, to more sleep-appropriate 'watery noises,' piano tunes and 'standard' white noise. The Pococo Galaxy Projector is ultimately the same technology as the Orzorz Galaxy Lite mentioned above, but in a different body. Scroll up to the top of the list to read all of the functionality, it's all the same and even uses the same shape disks; it's just the shape and color of this model that makes it different.
