Smoke, Dirty Earth, Vanilla, Raw Meat, Resin, Banana, Oak, Tobacco, slightly Sour Grapes, Caffe Latte and Aniseed. V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). It is the second most northern whisky distillery in Scotland, being half a mile farther south than the Highland Park Distillery. Fine oak spice and butterscotch are somewhat obscured by the smokiness of the dram as are some light fruit flavours of apricot and pear. The distillery was launched in 1885 and, as is custom with many small operations, its fortunes ebbed and flowed over time, even to the point of being shuttered from 1994 to 2004.

Scapa | Master of Malt

The lemon zest also becomes more pronounced and is joined by some wonderfully smooth caramel, with subtle hints of oak wood. The 14-year expression of the Scapa offering was given fair-to-good reviews at international spirit ratings competitions. Packaging is excellent - would make a thoroughly decent present for someone just starting into Whisky. Everything seems to be in balance in the body, but in basic magpies it is drunk very faded and watery, perhaps if they had given at least 43-46, it would have been a completely different matter. To be honest I struggle to detect any smoke or peat, however it has a very pleasant balance and is well made.Cumbria may be better known for the Lake District than whisky but there’s now a distillery producing the good stuff. The whisky displays itself with an amber colour, and when I tilt and twirl my glencairn I see a thin film, the crest of which releases long slender legs. A 2015 addition to the Scapa range, the Skiren is a handsomely honey'd single malt Scotch whisky which has been distilled in the Scotch whisky industry's only remaining working Lomond Still! The expression was created by taking the signature Scapa malt, which is aged in American Oak casks, and further resting it in peated casks. Glansa, a more recent release destined to intrigue both enthusiasts and those new to whisky, shows a faint smokiness after aging in American oak and finishing in ex-peated whisky casks.

Scapa Glansa Review Best Shot Whisky Reviews : Scapa Glansa Review

It was matured in first fill American oak casks, bringing plenty of vanilla and honey notes to the table. Because of the time-gap, to full production again, it was decided to stop the 12 years and introduce the 14 years, which was quite different from its predecessor. The whisky underneath the peat tastes young and undeveloped, and the peated flavour itself seemed almost the same. Mid-palate a nice fruitiness appears (more crisp apple and juicy pear) with lemon peels and a bit of honey and butterscotch sweetness.

Distillery Feature: Scapa - LCBO Distillery Feature: Scapa - LCBO

The Scapa distillery is located on The Mainland island of the Orkney isles, and it was that very distillery that made this single malt on 6th February 2002! Owned by Chivas Brothers, and characterised as an artisanal distillery with a product that captures the essence of their island home, Scapa is a gem of a whisky to find – and I’m glad the range is gently expanding. This was a range of whiskies that were only available at the distillery visitors centre, so were never avaialable to the wider public. One of two distilleries on the island of Orkney and safe to say does not enjoy the same prestige as the other one (Highland Park) and indeed very different in style as it is un-peated and exclusively ex-bourbon cask aged and much lighter and fruitier. My mission is to experience, share and inspire with everything great about whisky, whiskey, gin, beer and fine dining through my writing, my brand building and my whisky tastings. Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. Another really high quality Scapa that challenges similar aged Highland Parks for its complexity but without the peat smoke influence. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise.
