Description

Most refined oils are extracted using chemical solvents and high temperatures. Although the process is highly efficient abstracting 98% of the oil from the seed, compared to our 70%, it removes the taste, smell and colour. Cold pressed rapeseed oil contains polyphenol antioxidants, which are important for our cells, and carotenoids, which the body converts into vitamin A. Cold pressed rapeseed oil has the highest level of heart-healthy omega 3 and the lowest levels of saturated fats of all plant oils. It’s also a great source of vitamin E and has a perfect balance of omega 3:6 so you can see why we should all be including it in our baking, cooking and salad dressings!” – Lucy Williamson, Registered Nutritionist High in omega 3 with unbeatably low levels of saturated fat, Hillfarm oil is a simple way to nourish and protect your heart and body every day. It’s also the only oil or fat any cook needs. As well as being a pure and natural alternative to refined and saturated fats for frying, roasting and baking, our healthy all-rounder is a healthy and delicate alternative to extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil for dressings, marinades and sauces.

Rapeseed oil is rich in tocopherols, which are vitamin E compounds. Refining oils can reduce vitamin E levels, which is why cold pressed oil is a much better choice. Tocopherols are used by our body to manufacture the antioxidants vital for protecting us against cell damage from free radicals (oxidative stress). Free radicals are a byproduct of our metabolism so a regular source of vitamin E is essential in a balanced diet.” – Lucy Williamson Vitamin K There are two types of Omega 3 fatty acids which have healthy heart – giving properties as well as benefits to vision & brain health and an important anti-inflammatory function. They are called EPA and DHA and are already present in oily fish. Plant Omega 3 however, needs to be converted by our bodies into these two forms before we can get the same benefits. So, if we’re relying on plants for our Omega 3 we need a lot! The good news for Hillfarm fans is that Rapeseed oil has the highest levels of Omega 3 of all plant oils. It also provides the perfect balance of Omega 6:3 and you can read more about why this is so important in our Fats Q&A blog” – Lucy Williamson Vitamin E While fat is an essential part of our diets , health professionals recommend choosing unsaturated fats over saturated fats to help lower cholesterol levels and protect our hearts. Cold pressed rapeseed oil is lower in saturated fat than any other oil – with less than half the saturated fat level of olive oil!Rapeseed oil has the lowest levels of saturated fats of all plant oils. Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats in the diet can help to maintain normal blood cholesterol levels, which can help to reduce the risk of developing heart disease and stroke.” – Lucy Williamson High in omega 3

We use screw presses – the seeds fall into the thread of the screw and the movement draws the seed through, squeezing out the oil as it is drawn down the shaft of the screw. The oil is pushed out through small holes in the casing. The meal that comes out the other end, is collected up and is used to make animal feed. The oil is released without any heat treatment. The only heat comes from the friction created during the pressing and never exceeds 35ºC. The Great Taste Awards are the UK’s most well recognised awards for food and drink and we’re proud to display a number of stars across our product range. Cold pressed rapeseed oil is a natural source of plant sterols, which the British Heart Foundation advises can provide cholesterol-lowering benefits when consumed in sufficient quantities as part of a healthy balanced diet. We produce a delicious premium extra virgin oil made from British rapeseed grown and pressed on our farm in Suffolk. hillfarm cold pressed rapeseed oil is a natural choice for anyone looking for a fully traceable, sustainable British oil.Hillfarm oil is high in vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that’s essential to reduce cell damage, keep skin healthy and help to build a strong immune system. Vitamin K ensures good musculoskeletal development and is required for blood clotting. Hillfarm oil is only second to sunflower oil in the amount of Vitamin K it contains.” – Lucy Williamson High smoke point

Cold pressed rapeseed oil contains higher levels of plant sterols than refined varieties and almost twice as much as olive oil.” – Lucy Williamson Polyphenols and carotenoidsSome oils become altered at high temperatures and their nutrients damaged so we don’t get the benefit from them. Rapeseed oil is very stable at high temperatures and so is ideal for roasting and frying.” – Lucy Williamson Plant sterols Hillfarm oil is a rich source of omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are vital for our hearts, brain function and eyes. It’s also a balanced source of omega 6, the other essential fatty acids that need to be included in our diet. The best quality oils are cold pressed. Cold pressing retains all of the flavour, aroma, and nutritional value of the oil. Hillfarm oil has a high smoke point, making it suitable for all types of cooking as well as dipping and dressing. Unlike extra virgin olive oil, our oil can be safely heated up to 220°C so won’t burn or lose any nutritional value in a hot oven, deep fryer or frying pan.

The seed is cleaned and gently squeezed to draw out the oil; by treating the seed with respect we retain its nutritional composition and flavour.
