Without self motivation for what they do, people are rarely going to be able to excel in their job. I don’t disagree, but I do offer a note of caution here for HR people. One of the major factors in HR losing their focus over recent years in its desire to be more strategic is the attempted move to say that everything is “line manager” responsibility. Some of those monkeys ARE yours and you need to step up and take responsibility.

Now ‘’I was made into a horse’’ sounds hilarious, but it means that someone has made a fool out of you. This fantastically visual metaphor paints a striking image that’s hard to forget. Drowning is a poignant example of desperation, and that’s just what it’s supposed to depict in this idiom: someone who is drowning is desperate and will do anything to try and save themselves. In the end, it is up to the individual to decide what’s best for them. Not My Circus Not My Monkeys Memes I’m not 100% clear on your comment, but I’m assuming you mean what if someone sees a problem/monkey as your monkey, rather than theirs that they are passing off? If so, only you really know if that is the case. If so, you have to become adept at explaining that whilst it might on the face of it look like yours, it is in fact not. This can be difficult if the person in question is as skilled a monkey passer as you! The key to this idiom is that pears grow on pear trees, not willow trees. Therefore, if someone gives you pears on a willow, something is afoot! A context in which you could possibly use this idiom is if someone is promising something they can’t or won’t deliver. Scammers are often guilty of offering pears on a willow. 9. Nudne jak flaki z olejemThis can also help you avoid getting tangled up in another situation. For example, if someone you know gets into a fight, you might think “Not my circus, not my monkeys” to avoid getting caught up in their altercation. However over the years I have had two enlightening moments, which turned the tables for me both as an HR professional and a leader of teams of my own. The Polish proverb ‘’ Nie mój cyrk, nie moje małpy translates to "Not my circus, not my monkeys ’ ’,it is difficult to find its English equivalent. In regards to motivation: What an excellent way of describing role of ER and how removing barriers to self motivation makes perfect sense. Celene is worried that her partner's attitude at work is too flip and he will miss out on a promotion. She tries to make him dress and act more "like a contender" on the job. The more she makes suggestions, the more he finds her condescending and resists the suggestions.

Yes, all QR codes you created with this QR generator are free and can be used for whatever you want. Here’s a 1999 reprint of the 1974 article about other people’s monkeys… https://hbr.org/1999/11/management-time-whos-got-the-monkey Yes we often thinks its best to ‘do it ourselves’ as you say. Tim Ferris in his book ‘the four hour working week’ really argues this point well. I know he is not everyone’s cup of tea, but his points about not doing stuff that is not reflective of your skills or value are quite pertinent. Thanks for the comment! Essentially, this idiom is used to talk about someone that is trying to find faults in something that is faultless or trying to find something wrong in an otherwise good situation. Someone being a “debby downer” at a lovely picnic could be said to be looking for holes in the whole. 12. Mówić prosto z mostuOrganisational freedom fighter, tech nut and people fanatic. CEO. Investor. Adviser for start ups. Writer and speaker on the future of work, people and technology. Saying “Not my circus, not my monkeys” is very useful in the above-mentioned situations. However, there are pros and cons to consider. This is so like the frustration of depressed people who devote their energy to thinking and talking over problems over which they have no control. They are trying to be the ringmaster in someone else's circus. For example: The rhyming of the literal English translation of this idiom is a coincidence, but it makes for an interesting translation. The word “whole” in this phrase refers to something that is complete, or without holes. To look for holes in it, then, would be a fruitless endeavor. In short, it could be translated as having the same meaning of “I mind my own business” or ‘’it’s none of my business’’, but in a broader sense, it’s usually used to enhance the fact that you are not the one to judge someone else’s actions, even when you don’t necessarily agree with them. As if the mess someone else has found himself in, is not your mess to worry about, and the people taking part in that mess are not the ones you can control. Not My Circus Not My Monkeys Origin

Where a man is in a hurry, the devil is happy’’. This one is to remind you to take things slowly and carefully.

Everybody has experienced getting caught up in situations or problems that weren’t really their concern, to begin with. Becoming involved in something that is not your problem can be frustrating, to say the least. All of a sudden, there’s all this drama. Sometimes you’re not even sure how you got dragged into it! As a HR pro. it might be a good idea to make sure people realise you are there to help yet nothing is better than making them understand a great benefits of dealing with their own monkey (and they are many). This translates literally as in ‘’to push someone into a bottle’’, but its English equivalent is ‘’to pull someone’s leg.’’ QRCode Monkey also has no limitations. All generated QR codes will work forever, do not expire and have no scanning limits like you see at other commercial QR code generators. The created QR codes are static so the only limitation is that you can't edit the QR code again. This is an idiom that one could use to warn someone against causing unnecessary trouble. The literal translation actually does a fair job of illustrating a clear metaphor here because encouraging an encounter with a wolf is probably asking for trouble.

One example of how to use this certain phrase is when another person wishes to discuss the details of a problem they are having with somebody else. In this situation, you may not wish to get involved. You can say, “I don’t know what to do. It’s not my circus, not my monkeys.” This removes your responsibility from a problem that is not yours, to begin with.

EVENTS AND VENUE HIRE

The other light bulb moment came much later after discovering Jim Collins and his excellent book Good to Great. Motivation is a much used term and as leaders we are often charged with ‘motivating’ our people. So much so that the challenge of motivating a team, especially during difficult times can seem like an impossible task.
