Whitemetal oxidises very rapidly so that you can put a model away beautifully "polished" only to open the box the next day to find it looking awful.

The propelling action on the glass fibre pen allows more less of the glass fibres to be exposed, depending on the level of abrasiveness you want to achieve. Fortunately I tend to paint my models so don't have any problem with the unsightly solder marks on my kits. I've got some more techniques I want to try so I might do that on the other side and I bought another unfitted brake van to try and get the look I really wanted. They often feature a propelling action to expose more or less of the fibres depending on the level of abrasiveness you need.Over the years, I've used this stuff for a number of purposes - and have generally found the medium to be the most useful of the lot - followed by fine (which I've sometimes used for cleaning circuit boards). Too much solder spilling out of joins does nothing to the strength of a join and just adds to scraping and scouring to clean it up running the risk of damaging/bending/distorting/scratching what you have done and is an utter waste of solder and construction time.

Tinning the iron is vital to the whole process, and it is repeated every so often as the work proceeds. FINACNE TABLE START ------------>

One question, would the top 2 planks of the wagon belong continuous planks and replaced as one plank? New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging .The whole approach is to get the solder to take to the base metal, and any oxide on the metal stops the process, all the flux does is clean with acid whilst the surface is hot, and then keeps air off it till the metal bonds. Thanks for the comment Doilum, I'm not sure about the livery of the wagon, it's quite an old Bachmann product and could be completely fictitious, there might be someone on here who knows though.

I also have a larger fibreglass brush - about 10mm diameter that is absolutely OK and doesn't moult like the smaller item. They are available in various grades and do not have the problems that you have identified with fibreglass.I normally give whatever I'm working on a rinse in water at the end of a modelling session, often in an ultrasonic cleaner. I've started to distress the planks and paintwork and next up I've got a Lifecolour weathered wood set of paints to use. I've painted some planks and given the 2 grey wagons a wash of a brown/black mixture and after drying for a bit wiped it off. I've never seen reference to any specialised bunkering facilities at Whitstable; I'd say the harbour wouldn't merit them.
