This way the logs will be dried by the warmth of the sun and ventilation from the draft, but they won’t have rain blown directly on them when the weather is bad. Slanted rooves and raised floors are standard features of our assortment of log stores and are essential to keeping your logs and firewood dry and prepared for use. The ventilation they offer through their open fronts is also key for drying your logs thoroughly and evenly. My Dad and I followed your excellent guide to building a log store over the course of this weekend and the final result is superb, much better than I think I could buy elsewhere for less money and just a little bit of effort. I hope you don’t mind but I’d like to make the following comments/ corrections to the cutting list and instructions? Arbor Garden Solution hand manufacture high-quality garden furniture for the domestic, commercial and public sectors. Our products are heavy-duty in construction with pressure-treated timber for maximum durability. All of our products are highly durable and beautifully finished to ensure customer satisfaction. A log store with a 1 m³ capacity can hold approximately 300 standard logs. Therefore, a store with 0.5 m³ of space will hold roughly 150 standard logs, and so on.

The cladding baton lengths specified in the cutting list don’t match the dimensions listed for the store. The side wall batons are stated at 0.72m but the actual dimension for the store are 0.65m (the length of the longer floor boards so the baton dimension need shortening to 0.65m. The cladding batons for the rear of the store are stated at 1.72m but the actual dimension needs to be 1.76m based on the length of the horizontal roof structure supports.

Double Store with Doors

Our excellent quality single-bay log stores not only look incredible but also offer an incredibly spacious internal space it is a perfect solution for keeping logs and firewood tidy and protected from the elements. All timber materials used in manufacturing these storages are constructional grade and pressure treated, and all fixings provided are corrosion resistant. Timber is sourced from FSC-approved, sustainable sources, so as well as lasting for years you can be sure that it is environmentally sound too. As we’ve all no doubt learned the hard way, buying a cheaper product can seem like a good idea initially, but can cost us more in the long run when we have to replace it sooner. I made a few adjustments as I couldn’t get exactly the same timber (so used fence posts!) and as another one of your readers did, I added a 3rd front post so I could put in the kindling store bit. I also put the roof sloping the other way as thats the direction most of the weather comes into my garden.

At 116 cm wide and 123 cm high, it has a capacity of 0.75 m³ (which equates to about 225 standard logs) whilst taking up a lot less room than a lot of the other log stores featured here. If you’re only burning a living-room fire for a few nights a week, this should be an adequate store to keep enough wood nearby.

Does a log store need ventilation?

If you require your logs to be placed in another location where our vehicles will not reach, we offer three kinds of “deliver to point” services. Please note this charge is per dumpy bag. All of the feather edge was cut, drilled and hand nailed…I almost bought a nail gun and am glad I didn’t. I couldn’t think of another project I’d do that I’d need one for…and the one I almost bought only had 15mm nails/staples so wouldn’t have been any good.

Our garden stores are available in either solid feather-edge board or slatted gravel board finishes, so you will easily be able to find the right product to suit you. They are made with heavy duty fixings and high quality, pressure treated timber so that they are able to stand the test of time and last through season after season. Our heavy duty fixings are also corrosion treated so they won't let you down. As others have done, we added three additional supports for the floor, out of excess 47x50mm timber, in line with the rear central support and equidistant between this and the end supports. All three were 0.56m long. You’re right about the pitch and tiles being too heavy. When I tried setting battens out I realised a minimum pitch is also required for the tiles to lie properly. Log stores keep logs protected from the worst of the weather, helping firewood stay dry so that it’s ready to use when you want it. Choosing the Right Size Log Store

My Top Recommended Log Stores

You’ll find log stores with a number of beneficial features, from raised log stores for added moisture protection, to pressure-treated wood from sustainable sources. Manufactured from big brands such as Shire, Garden Village, Mercia you can depend on high quality. This wood has an attractive silvery finish, and doesn’t discolour as much as pine wood. It’s also been pressure treated, so doesn’t need any further treatment against rot for the first few years. Floor (22x100mm): 2 x 0.556 m lengths (for sides), 1 x 0.603 m length (for middle), 10 x 0.65 m lengths (for all other pieces)

There is a kindling shelf that can be positioned wherever you want it – given that this is a double unit, you could even have half a side of kindling if you wanted, whilst still leaving a lot of room for logs. Keeping logs dry is no mean feat, especially in certain parts of the UK where the wind and rain can be somewhat relentless. Fortunately, this Large Log Store from The Garden Supplies Centre is a great medium-size log store that won’t let a squall or a flurry permeate its walls. These are more suited to people who are frequently burning logs in winter, or using a wood-burning stove as well as a fire. Some people choose to have both a large and small wood store, placing the smaller one closer to the house for easy access, with the larger one used to store and season more logs. This Normanton Hand Made Wooden Log Store fits around 450 standard logs, yet is still fairly compact and can be placed in easy-reach of the house.

Log Storage & FireplaceS

If you’re conscious about burning responsibly-sourced logs, you’ll likely be looking for a wood store that is similarly environmentally conscientious. This Rutland County Garden Furniture Cottesmore Log Store is made from FSC-approved wood which comes from sustainable sources. We didn’t have the luxury of a nailgun so used 60mm long oval nails in it’s place. Oval nails are a must as there’s a risk that round nails will split the timbers and should be used in the direction of the grain on the thinner boards. Worth mentioning in case other builders don’t have access to to a nailgun? Due to logistical limitations WE DO NOT deliver to Scottish Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands or any offshore Islands. Preparing and seasoning wood needs to be done long before you actually need to use your wood burner. A log store is a great way to keep your wood safe and dry, preparing it for the winter months. Pressure-treated wood is protected from rot as well as insects such as woodworm. In many cases, this wood has been seen to last for around 15+ years (of course, environmental factors also play a part in its life potential). As a result, it’s a great material for a log store.
