Description

The number following the ‘V’ represents the minimum sequential write speed in megabytes per second (MB/s) that the card can sustain. So, a card with a Video Speed Class of V30, such as the Samsung Evo Plus and Evo Select, guarantees a minimum write speed of 30MB/s. And the best part? Each microSDXC comes with an adorable design from a popular game franchise. Depending on which size you invest in, you can either get the Triforce from The Legend of Zelda, the Super Star or Mushroom from Mario, Animal Crossing’s iconic leaf logo, or even the Apex Legends sigil. Decide if you value high-speed transfers or prefer the convenience of offloading files, and this will help you decide between the more expensive performance options from PNY and the budget alternative from Sandisk. After that, you only need to choose a size, and I generally recommend 256GB cards as a perfect middle ground between usefulness and cost.

Speed tests were run using USB 3.0 card readers. The highest sequential read speed benchmark reached 98.4 MB/s, well above Samsung's 95MB/s read claim. The sequential write benchmark measured 89.6 MB/s maximum, just reaching the 90MB/s write speed advertised by Samsung. These numbers are impressive for such a large capacity card and makes one wonder why Samsung put such a high performance card in the EVO Select line rather than the PRO Select. In terms of capacity, both cards offer a range, from 32GB to 512GB, allowing users to choose based on their specific storage requirements. Larger capacity cards are ideal for users who frequently record high-resolution videos or take numerous photos. The following table contains information encoded in the SD card. The U3 Speed Class of the Evo Plus and Evo Select allows these cards to support 4K video recording. 4K video recording requires a constant and reliable speed to ensure that video frames are written to the card without delay or loss of data. Having a U3 rating guarantees that the card will have a minimum write speed of 30MB/s, making it possible to handle the large amounts of data generated by 4K video recording. The Samsung EVO Select 256GB card will be included in upcoming digital camera tests. When the results are available they will be added below. Available in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants, each is incredibly well priced at practically any storefront you'll find them. If you just want an SD card to get the job done, the Sandisk Ultra cards are the best budget option for you. I've personally used them in lightweight hardware and cheaper smartphones, and they are good enough for transferring images, screenshots, and game saves from emulators. The UHS Speed Class is specifically related to the minimum write speed, similar to the standard Speed Class but for higher performance requirements. UHS Speed Class 1 (U1) signifies a minimum write speed of 10MB/s, and UHS Speed Class 3 (U3), as found in the Samsung Evo Plus and Evo Select, indicates a minimum write speed of 30MB/s.

So, what I'm postulating here, but not totally sure, is that the two cards are possibly made by entirely different printing methods, using entirely different substrate materials. As you can see from the spec list the EVO Select and the SanDisk Ultra have similar read speeds but the biggest difference is in the write speed. That's because the SanDisk is only classed at U1 instead of the U3 of the Samsung. The U Number tells you what class the microSD is when connected to devices using the UHS transfer bus. It's technical, but generally the higher the number the faster the write speed from the device to the card.

UHS-I cards have a bus interface speed up to 104 MB/s, UHS-II cards can go up to 312 MB/s, and the latest UHS-III cards can reach a speed up to 624 MB/s. However, these numbers pertain to the bus interface speed, not the minimum sequential write speed. However, it’s important to note that while the U3 rating assures a minimum write speed, the actual performance can be significantly higher. Many cards, such as the Samsung Evo Plus and Evo Select, often offer maximum write speeds that are much higher than their UHS Speed Class rating. Video Speed Class A new SD card is just one way in which you could improve your experience playing on Nintendo Switch. For other ideas, consider visiting our guides to the best Nintendo Switch accessories, the best Nintendo Switch controllers, the best Nintendo Switch carry cases, or the best Nintendo Switch headsets. Let’s first introduce the two contenders in this comparison: the Samsung Evo Plus and the Samsung Evo Select. Both of these Micro SD cards have earned their place in the market with distinct offerings, meeting a broad range of user requirements. Samsung Evo Plus: High-Speed Performance and Robust Durability

Both the SanDisk Extreme and Samsung Evo Plus offer great performance and reliability, with the SanDisk Extreme having a slight edge in read speeds. use of the content you supply does not violate these Terms of Use and will not cause injury to any person or entity. As you mentioned, both the Samsung Evo Plus and Evo Select carry a Speed Class rating of 10, the highest standard class rating available. This means these cards guarantee a minimum sequential write speed of 10 MB/s. While this might not seem like a high speed in comparison to other digital storage devices, it’s crucial to remember that this is the minimum guaranteed speed, not the maximum. In many circumstances, these cards will exceed their rated minimum speed, offering higher performance.

Available sizes and prices The Samsung EVO Select 256GB microSDXC card offers huge capacity and impressive speed.
