Rain improves air quality, literally washing fine particulate pollution away, and rainfall also releases Geosmin, a fragrant compound which is linked with relaxation and increased serotonin levels. Mosley avoids getting into the weeds but for those inclined, there are links at the end to dig deeper. He chats to experts, road tests all his tips and enlists some special guests to help you find that one small thing that could really make a difference to how you feel. It’s a low-impact, low-intensity exercise that can make you stronger, more flexible, and benefit your posture and balance.

I think we all recognise that a sedentary lifestyle and sitting for prolonged periods is terrible for our health. He then decided to move into medicine, intending to become a psychiatrist, studying at the Royal Free Hospital Medical School, now part of UCL Medical School. This book is based on a podcast that was started during lockdown, just introduces Just One Thing each episode you can do to improve your health. Also enjoy the fact that they get what seems like ordinary people to have a go at implementing some changes and getting actual feedback. I've definitely been inspired to make some simple changes to my daily routine which I'm sure will better my well-being.I’d heard a couple of episodes from his podcast that this book is based on, and I thought they were really good ideas and very easy to implement. Michael Mosley ventures to his local pool and the sea to explore the unique benefits of going for a swim - from improving memory and mental agility, to boosting longevity. Soooo vital re UPF,UK national food strategy, climate change,uk economy(can’t be divorced from NHS etc). He chats to experts, road tests all his tips and even enlists the help of some special guests to help you find that one small thing that could really make a difference to how you feel every day.

As I stand on one leg to type this review (something that I wouldn’t have done before taking up the ‘Just One Thing’ challenge! I eat quite a bit of beetroot, i’ve tried learning new things (knitting, sewing, painting etc), have learned how good getting out in the garden is, the joy of houseplants etc. Based on the popular BBC programme Just One Thing , Dr Michael Mosley shows how changing one small thing in your daily routine can significantly benefit your health. He is a doctor turned science journalist and tv presenter who has published many books including The Fast Diet and the Eight Week Blood Sugar Diet.I liked that this book gave methods or rather habits that can be added to your day such as via diet or exercise or even hobbies. Michael Mosley speaks to Professor Jon Lundberg from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden who made the fascinating discovery that nitric oxide is produced in your nose and travels to your lungs where it has some surprising benefits, including boosting oxygen uptake and possibly helping you fight off infections. There are so many brilliant ideas that I want to try, like improving my balance by brushing my teeth whilst standing on one leg, dancing and singing more, eating chocolate, yes really, and standing up more, rather than sitting around reading all day! I highly recommend ‘Just One Thing’ if you are interested in a healthier life but feel intimidated by all the information out there. I won’t be adopting all of the ‘Just one things’ but I will certainly be starting some of them - standing on one leg, intelligent exercises and eating dark chocolate to name three!

Was really heartening to hear the well known tv etc Dr Twins warmly complimenting other experts in their field incl Dr MM who is so encouraging in Just one thing. Chatting to experts and road-testing all of his tips, he enlists the help of some special guests to help you find that one small thing that could really make a difference to how you feel every day. I realise just how much I’ve taken away from this joyful little tome, so three cheers for MM for his work and health projects. Mosley suggests in this book are what people already know about, where he succeeds is at offering good suggestions on how to incorporate them into our life with simple changese to our daily routine.Professor Hirofumi Tanaka, from the University of Texas at Austin, reveals why water-based exercises like swimming are especially good for improving the elasticity of your blood vessels and a new way to exercise in the pool.
