Grounds open at 5 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. You may bring a picnic, but no outside alcohol is allowed. Bags may be subject to search. We have our full concert lineup ready to roll and I think everyone is going to be pleased,” said Parks and Recreation Director Harry Bowman.

Much of this evening’s power is driven by Lanterns on the Lake playing with two drummers. Philip Selway is joined here by Tom Hardy, though his tenure with the band may be short-lived if he continues to suggest that singer and songwriter Hazel Wilde’s appearance resembles that of an evil headmistress “in that dress.” For her part, Wilde is at her most relaxed, most playful, and has surely never sounded in better voice. All proceeds from Music By The Lake come to Weldmar Hospicecare, and funds the specialist care that we provide to adults in Dorset who have a life limiting illness, as well as support for their loved ones. Music on the lakeside lawn is a rite of summer. Come enjoy the jazz sounds of Straight Ahead for a fun evening! Spread out a picnic and soak in the summer evening splendor. The Wednesday night series is in its 32nd year and is once again sponsored by Petitpren, which has been the sole sponsor of Music on the Lake during its entire existence.

Our chilled out Sunday afternoon show starts with the music of the world’s biggest star right now – Adele. Her four albums have combined sales of more than sixty million copies worldwide, including anthems such as Hello, Rolling In The Deep, Set Fire To The Rain, Skyfall, and Someone Like You. Then, our top tribute to the Sex Bomb himself, Tom Jones, will entertain with songs that span fifty years, from classics such as Delilah, She’s A Lady, and Green Green Grass through to Kiss, You Can Leave Your Hat On, and Mama Told Me Not To Come.

Out of Detroit’s lively jazz scene, which has produced some of the best musicians in the world comes the groundbreaking jazz group Straight Ahead. A group of strong, inventive instrumentalists and vocalists, they have shown themselves to be powerful and imaginative composers and arrangers. Widely recognized for their eclectic and soulful approach to creating music, the Straight Ahead sound ranges comfortably from mainstream jazz, contemporary jazz, Latin, and jazzy hip-hop. Their live performances are a dynamic celebration of power and joy with a wide range of musical textures, moods, and tempos. As the set draws to a close, a clearly moved Hazel Wilde says “this feels like a very special gig to me.”And she is absolutely right in this assertion. It is special, something that is achieved not only by such an incredibly powerful performance from Lanterns on the Lake but also their connection with the environment in which it takes place. Tonight the Howard Assembly Room has dispensed with their customary seating in the stalls area and in so doing has attracted the biggest sell-out crowd ever to be seen in the venue. And with everyone standing downstairs the atmosphere certainly changes within the building and makes for a more immersive, integrative experience.

On Friday 30th June, it’s party night, with tribute acts to pop legends Take That and Kylie. Two of the biggest names in music are represented on the evening of Saturday 1st July with Queen and Whitney Houston tributes, and then Sunday afternoon’s traditionally chilled out show features songs spanning sixty years as we welcome leading tributes to Adele and Sir Tom Jones! An electric charge will launch and then light up the 16,000 pyrotechnic pieces. This process means no cardboard or plastic, and reduces the amount of gunpowder used by eliminating the need for 90% of the charges. This translates to less chemicals, smoke, and carbon dioxide. No more chemicals: sugars and Arabic gum will be used to color the fireworks. After the festival, a company of professional divers will be used to clean up the bottom of the bay. Annecy’s scuba diving club will assist them.

Following the release of their Mercury Music Prize-nominated fourth album Spook the Herdin February 2020, and as the coronavirus pandemic began to take hold, Lanterns on the Lake started work on their next record. Approaching the final stages of its recording they then realised that “things didn’t feel right”so bravely chose to scrap what was a year’s worth of sessions for the new album. To compound matters, drummer Ol Ketteringhamand one of Lanterns on the Lake’s founding members decided it was time for him to move on from the group.
