Gunpei Yokoi’s design philosophy – using proven, inexpensive components in new and interesting ways – continued through Nintendo's handheld line

This fan-made wideboy involves cutting up a couple of boring, regular Games Boys Advances, gluing them together into a Frankenboy, filling in the gaps with Polyfilla, and spray-painting with primer. The innards were slightly more complex, involving lots of soldering, wire management, and testing, testing, testing. Image: The Retro FutureThe Gameboy had a golden painted shell with the words “Golden Sun” on the top of the screen and character sprites below. Off-White (First Game Boy color shell of the original Game Boy, and all of the Game Boy line systems) (1989) Despite the Game Boy with the Altus Newing logo being an off-white shell, the Game Boy with the Altus Newing logo is actually the same as the white Play it Loud! Series Game Boy with the Altus Newing logo on it. So far, the system seems particularly well suited to scrolling level-hopping games. The action is smooth and satisfying, but the sound is a bit basic by modern standards - but hey, isn't the point of this exercise to get a bit of nostalgic arcade action? We love it! Finally, the Game Boy Advaaaaaaaaaaaaance gets that iconic blurple coating, and all of its insides hooked up to its outsides, and then... it's done! This hellish abomination is out there, somewhere, looking like a Nintendo Switch prototype gone horribly, horribly wrong. We love it.

The Retro Future took on this project a year after making the Long Boy, a Game Boy that's... very long, as well as the dual-screen SP, the left-handed Game Boy, and the Game Boy Advance SP. Now, he's setting his sights on a new dimension: width. If you’ve been following Retro Dodo for some time, you’ll know that we’re absolutely obsessed with rare Gameboys, we collect them, we pimp them and we mod them. as long as the screen is not scratched you are OK. Also, you can get the charger separately if needs be). Our 001 machine was less than a tenner.Primarily the work of Satoru Okada and Gunpei Yokoi, the console was designed to a specific price point and goal; to be a practical portable device. Rival companies got carried away with the technical possibilities and contemporary handheld consoles with far superior specs fell by the wayside as Game Boy marched on. Gunpei Yokoi’s design philosophy – using proven, inexpensive components in new and interesting ways – continued through Nintendo's handheld line and carried over to its home consoles with Wii. The Switch itself, and novel experiments such as Labo VR, show that this approach continues to keep the Kyoto company in rude health.

The only image of this Gameboy Advance SP to be seen is in fact the promotional image for the Golden Sun GBA that was a competition within the CoroCoro magazine from Japan. This console keeps growing in demand and is swiftly becoming one of the rarest consoles out there because nobody has proof of owning one nor is there any listings. A game that is way underrated in my opinion, is Batman Forever, which is much better than Batman The Movie. In my opinion Tetris on Game Boy is still the best version of the game. It's a very basic version, but every time I start the original Game Boy and hear that classic Tetris tune, I know I'm in for a good time. 10/10 in my book. But it is a good game; the graphics are nicely done; the music sets the right "mysterious" mood and the "action" is obviously way better than in most 2D games (Mortal Kombat, you know). Finally, a rare Gameboy Advance I hear you ask! By far one of the most popular consoles of the Gameboy line. Imagineer Glow-In-Dark - light green glowing in dark - Prize in Imagineers Multi Racing Championship [N64] Contest - 2000pcs made (Japan, 1996) In this video we feature a wide range of rare Gameboys, ones that you may have hidden in your attics to Gameboys that are so rare that there’s rumoured to be only 1 in the world. I must say I'm a bit sad, not seeing Gradius Interstallar Assault on the list as I feel it's an excellent game. It's a bit different than the usual Gradius games, in the way that it's a bit slower, more "tactical" experience, but it is in my opinion a very good game in its own way.

It's just that it is sort of a "hard sell", because it uses Mortal Kombat Gameboy's combat system in an action adventure, which means that if you are not familiar with fighting games's control systems, it can seem almost impossible to get past the first screen. It turns out the screen is OK after all - welllll, - it is not as bright as the 101 , but it is not a deal breaker: it is watchable. Subsequently we have found a local games shop selling the old games for a fiver each - still lots of choice out there.Golden Sun is a very popular retro game that was officially released for the first time on the Gameboy Advance in 2001. With the release came a special edition variant in Japan that’s so rare only 20 were actually made.
