If selling or recycling your books is not what you are looking for, keep reading! You may be wondering where can I take used books? Well, I’ve got several options for what to do with unwanted books you want to share! 8. Library The third part is more about how to get your message across, how to campaign and, finally, how to get into politics. It is not the only way to change the world, but it remains one of the most important.

My goal is to hopefully land the books to an org that will use them for childhood reading, rather than sell them for profit for some other reason. But what can I do" then takes the listener into practical steps offering advice on how one can help fix and get involved. The great thing about these sections is that they draw on previous Campbell , writings ,work and insights, so we have hints and tips on areas such as teamship, leadership, formulating strategies and better mental health. Overall, a solid 4/5. Somehow, I still do allow the pessimism to triumph over my optimism and say, “it really is not that easy.” But more than anything, it is motivation - I am more than willing to put myself out there into the political ring. I even landed a new political job while in the midst of reading this book, which certainly sourced some of my courage to take it over another opportunity.Very disappointed. In my view, there were many issues that were not discussed or analysed properly. While smashing modern politicians, he glosses over Tony Blair and George W Bush's tenure (and the illegal war in Iraq) insisting BoJo was the first PM in UK history to unquestionably lie to the public. No mention of of the SNP flaws because...guess what? That's an unpopularist view. Also a return to violence in Northern Ireland will be the fault of the referendum and the post Brexit deal and not the lunatic terrorists who murder women and children (police officers and politicians), justifying this behaviour as their cause. I was intrigued at the beginning, especially when learning about the planning and prep of Fire Drill Friday’s, as well as which speakers spoke. However, it was the same thing: teach-in, drill, civil disobedience, arrest, and what can I do. I was hoping to get more than just a repeated cycle after each chapter. It doesn’t matter how old you are, what qualifications you have, haven’t got, or where you come from. There’s no fixed route into politics. You do it your way.

Listening to TRiP podcast has reignited my engagement with politics and campaigning, and this book is a great guide to the pitfalls and positives.

What to do with unwanted books?

When I started writing it, Boris Johnson was in Downing Street. Two prime ministers later, the mess the country is in is greater than ever. But though the UK is the country I know best, I try to range far and wide in showing how the trends doing such damage to politics here are having a similar corrosive effect elsewhere. And while I do not hide my distaste for the Tories, I genuinely hope to offer ideas and insights that help people of all political persuasions and none, including those who are unsure what they believe in as yet. I hope, too, that current politicians read the book, and reflect that they, and the way they do politics, are a big part of the problem. They need to change, or be changed. As with other places offered on this list, be sure to call and inquire about the current level of need to ensure that your donation is not a burden. But the white colonists did it wrong. They did it wrong because embedded in the development of their institutions of power, their institutions of governance, and economies was the exploitation of things that weren’t considered valuable: people, women, plants that weren’t valuable to the wealth, and to the power, and to the vision that those original white male landholders saw for themselves” PDF / EPUB File Name: But_What_Can_I_Do_-_Alastair_Campbell.pdf, But_What_Can_I_Do_-_Alastair_Campbell.epub

I learned much from this book. For example, I did not know the military is exempt from most environmental regulations, nor just how closely related petroleum extraction and war is. Jane writes: “Every single war fought in the past 80 years, if not longer, has been about oil.” Though he never liked Margaret Thatcher, she never sank this low. Boris Johnson, however? “I have considerable experience of prime ministers,” he writes. “Whether Tory or Labour, none were liars. Johnson was, and is. Fact.” A call to action from Jane Fonda, one of the most inspiring activists of our time, urging us to wake up to the looming disaster of climate change and equipping us with the tools we need to join her in protest In the fall of 2019, frustrated with the obvious inaction of politicians and inspired by Greta Thunberg, Naomi Klein, and student climate strikers, Jane Fonda moved to Washington, DC to lead weekly climate change demonstrations on Capitol Hill. On October 11, she launched Fire Drill Fridays (FDF), and has since led thousands of people in non-violent civil disobedience, risking arrest to protest for action. In her new book, Fonda weaves her deeply personal journey as an activist alongside conversations with leading climate scientists, and discussions of specific issues, such as water, migration, and human rights, to emphasize what is at stake. Most significantly, Fonda provides concrete solutions, and things the average person can do to combat the climate crisis in their community. I am currently trying to save Toddler books from the recycle bin that are surplus from the public library after the library book sales.A fun idea of what to do with unwanted books is to host a book exchange. This is one of my favorite ways to recycle books. We did this a women’s retreat that I attended. Everyone who wanted to brought books to share. Then, for every book you brought you could get a new book if you wanted. If you have friends and family who love reading, why not ask them if there’s anything they’re interested in reading before you donate? After they’re done with your books, they can then donate using the list above. Every chapter ends with a section: What Can I Do, with specific, actionable steps. It's not enough to raise the alarm--you have to empower people with information on how they can get involved to solve the problem. This book does this so well that I have just realized with a sigh that I will have to return my library copy and go buy a copy for my permanent use. One example: The financial industry--it is time to take a really close look at who you are supporting with your 401(k).

In recent weeks, we’ve had Ian Dunt’s How Westminster Works and Rafael Behr’s Politics: A Survivor’s Guide, both of which adopted the perspective of: politics is broke – here’s how to fix it. Now comes Alastair Campbell’s But What Can I Do?, a book whose entire text should have been printed in italics to give a better immediate sense of the exasperation contained within. Our politics is a mess. Leaders who can't or shouldn't be allowed to lead. Governments that lie, and seek to undermine our democratic values. Policies that serve the interests of the privileged few. It's no surprise that so many of us feel frustrated, let down and drawn to ask, ' But what can I do?'Using solar panels and electric vehicles isn’t enough. Advocating for workers’ rights and abolishing child labour used to mine the cobalt to power them is. The “ What can I do” section shows you how you could help, put in the work that’s required. What did Jane do when she was processed and put in a jail cell? Well, this 82 year old woman who once led the aerobics mania of the 80s with her leggings-and-Reebok-clad videos, stated "I spent the time doing wall squats." Ha ha! Go, Jane! The book also goes into other issues like refugees, deforestation, oceans, women, policies, and many more. I learned so much, even though it’s mainly focused on The United States, (rightly so)💪🏽Loved all the indigenous voices too. Cheers to women. 🥂 ( Yes, Wangari Maathai) . A great book if you want inspiration and motivation to become more politically active, but also a useful tool to be a better leader in any field. Our politics is a mess. Leaders who can’t or shouldn’t be allowed to lead. Governments that lie, and seek to undermine our democratic values. Policies that serve the interests of the privileged few. It’s no surprise that so many of us feel frustrated, let down and drawn to ask, ‘ But what can I do?‘
