What makes it good for gaming is its lightweight nature and wired setup as it reduces latency and doesn't rely on the battery for power. Its plug and play feature makes it a better choice for gamers who want to play games remotely without worrying about the battery. With the rise of mobile gaming in recent years, it seems only wise to keep up with the changing times. That’s why it’s only a matter of time for the well-known gaming peripheral brand, HyperX, to release its own gaming earbuds— the HyperX Cloud Earbuds. One major difference between the Cloud Earbuds and the Turtle Beach Battle Buds is the removable boom mic. This is a unique design feature that really makes the Battle Buds stand out in the competition. But the boom mic advantage seems to end at the design. Compared to the HyperX Cloud Earbuds, the Battle Buds’ boom mic actually falls short in quality because of the echo and high sensitivity. I found the cable to be quite unique. It’s flat and sports a bright red color. It definitely stands out and helps give that gamer edge to the overall design.

Since then, HyperX has been providing a variety of PC, console, and wireless headsets that meet the rigorous demands of gamers, which give them the winning edge and help them stay on top of their game. We didn't like the idea of putting a single button in-line remote though. It's a multifunction button that controls play/pause, answering calls. We missed a dedicated volume button and a microphone switch, given that it is a gaming headset. The patented silicone ear tips are very comfortable to wear. They feel a bit loose, but not too much like they’re going to fall out. Their unique shapes make them smooth and easy to remove. Sound Quality The Cloud MIX Buds have omni-directional mics, which are…okay. People were able to hear my voice clearly over video and voice calls, but I’m very loud and my friends pointed out that it didn’t sound nearly as good as when I use a headset with a boom mic. I was also able to take calls on the street without issue, but the mics don’t have any built-in active noise canceling and the people on the other end of the line could definitely hear what was going on around me. Software for the HyperX Cloud MIX BudsThey have quite a peculiar design. The silicone ear tips double as stabilizer wings, with small slits that serve as a grip on your ears to keep the IEMs from falling off. The HyperX Cloud Earbuds has been marketed for the Nintendo Switch and mobile gaming. It is rather surprising that they have not included any volume controls, which can be a deal-breaker for some. Although you can adjust the volume on the device you’re using, it would have been nice to see this feature included. Moreover, the Battle Buds come with a soft carry pouch that you tie together, whereas the Cloud Earbuds use a hard, rubber zip-up case. This adds a winning point for the Cloud Earbuds. As expected from HyperX, they did not disappoint in sound quality. The 20-20kHz frequency matches well with crisp mids and decently-rounded highs. There are two ways to connect the Cloud MIX Buds to a device: 2.4 -GHz wireless and Bluetooth. Both are fairly straightforward — the wireless dongle is already paired to the earbuds, so all you should have to do is plug the dongle in and the earbuds will automatically connect when you remove them from the charging case.

It’s hard to cancel out noise completely with earbuds, but the Cloud Earbuds are still able to reduce environmental sounds, at least to the point that they sound muffled. Fortunately, they weren’t too distracting while playing immersive games, such as Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. A screenshot from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild IEMs don’t usually look like they’re made for gaming, but somehow the HyperX has managed to do just that. Cable The unique cable of the Cloud Buds The most impressive attribute of the HyperX Cloud Earbuds is its gaming audio for mobile gaming. I used it mostly for PUBG Mobile sessions on the Samsung Galaxy S10 and OnePlus 6T (using a Type-C converter) and the audio is impressively good for such games. You can hear footsteps, gunshots, explosions and similar sounds pretty crisply. The idea in itself sounds great for a country like India where there has been an eruption in the number of smartphone gamers in the last one year. All thanks to PUBG Mobile and the OEMs who've made smartphone capable of such intense processing. With all that happening in the smartphone world, HyperX didn't miss the opportunity of giving something that's going to be the next need of serious smartphone gamers - the earbuds. A little more versatility with an included Y-cable would have been preferable, but for handheld gaming consoles, they work just fine. Build QualityThe length is perfect for mobile devices. It doesn’t tangle very easily as well, which is supposedly the objective of the flat cable design in the first place. I know how this sounds, but it wasn’t all bad — the earbuds did work as intended some of the time, and when they did the audio quality was pretty good. I was especially impressed with how well they reproduced spatial audio in games (I’ve been playing the new chapter drop in Elder Scrolls Online, so I’ve had plenty of time to walk around cities and consider whether I really feel the atmosphere). They do a very good job with multi-layered sound — for earbuds, and in general. HyperX is a brand known for its high-quality gaming peripherals. They have released headphones, keyboards, and mice catered towards casual players and professionals. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that the company is having a go at the expanding gaming earbud market. Traditionally, we have all been led to believe that headphones reign supreme in terms of audio quality. In most cases, this is the truth, but with the increase in mobile and console gaming, the HyperX Cloud Earbuds aim to close the gap between performance and comfortability. Design Next, we went with a classic, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which would be slower-paced and more immersive. Upon entering a nearby tavern, the music sung by a bard was clear and the instruments were not piercing to the ear. The sound was well-rounded and could even be compared to that of headphones. What’s in the Box? From what I’ve read, this multifunction button is mostly meant for answering calls and playing and pausing music. But, for gaming sessions, this multifunction button is basically useless. It didn’t do anything when I tried to use it on my Nintendo Switch.

Although HyperX didn't specify the material, it seems like silicone and rubber combination. The quality of the material is good. Despite that, I didn’t observe any instances of my voice cutting off. There’s a slight reverb to it though.

Next are the earbud casings themselves. Inside, you’ll find 14 mm dynamic drivers, but more on sound later. HyperX has included 3 different sized silicone patented ear tips. They’ve been made in an almost ‘wedge-shape style’ so removal from the ear canal is made easier. It’s a pity that HyperX has not included any foam ear tips, but the included tips still provide a comfortable experience. While it's a better earbud design for some, many like me prefer the rounded tips. These fit well in the ear and stay put, but I didn't get comfortable wearing these I constantly had a feeling that they're fitting properly and may fall off. Thankfully, they didn't fall, but I had to adjust them repeatedly while playing games. Note that these are single driver earbuds, and there are many better-sounding earphones in the market at its price if the music is your prime concern. The sound is generally clean, crisp and clear that can suffice basic music need, but audiophiles might not get the feeling they expect on a Rs 5,999 earbuds. But again, these are for gamers, not audiophiles.
