Postman Pat: The Movie - Wikipedia

Having been denied his yearly bonus by a sinister corporate new broom called Carbuncle (Peter Woodward), Pat, voiced efficiently enough by a reined-in Stephen Mangan, enters the show to win a holiday to Italy, to make good on a promise to his wife. It is unknown why Nikhil, Bonnie and Pumpkin were absent from the film, despite being major characters since their debuts. Postman Pat is hitting the big screen, with Episodes actor Stephen Mangan and Boyzone star Ronan Keating voicing the cheery postie when he's speaking and singing, respectively.

In 2013, the story in Postman Pat Live from Premier Stage Productions was almost the same as this film. Allan Hunter of the Daily Express gave it three stars, and said "Kids are going to love Postman Pat: The Movie even if adults might find it sacrilegious in its treatment of their beloved childhood favourite... It's a bit Wallace & Gromit, a bit Doctor Who and just as silly and overexcited as a four-year-old after an excess of fizzy drinks." [17]

The Chief Executive Officer of the SDS, Mr Brown ( Jim Broadbent), and Edwin Carbunkle had been watching the contest on television. They say that they would like to use Pat in a publicity campaign including his own television series. Carbunkle also confirms that because Pat will be away participating in the contest, a robot replica of him called the "Patbot 3000" will be taking over his postal duties, along with another robot replica of Jess called the "Jessbot" as well. This film marks the return of Miss Hubbard, Major Forbes and George Lancaster. Miss Hubbard was last seen doing a cameo role in Postman Pat and the Green Rabbit and George and Major Forbes have not appeared since Postman Pat and the Big Surprise and Postman Pat and the Mystery Tour. It's also the first mentioning of Julia Pottage although she hasn't been since Postman Pat's Christmas Eve. Postman Pat the movie is an entertaining tale for all the family, which sees Postman Pat auditioning for a talent show and then being duplicated by lots of “Pat-Bot” robots! I found that it’s one of those movies that you could enjoy as a parent watching alongside your children, you won’t be too bored. Seeing Postman Pat singing with the voice of Ronan Pat was great!

Stephen Mangan has said that Postman Pat's first venture into film involves "an emotional journey". It's better than the trailer, let's start there. After all, the big screen debut of Postman Pat suffered from an early promo that suggested the film was not one to look forward to. As it turns out, there are merits to the Postman Pat movie, which at times feels as much like the beneficiary of a Doctor Who script conference as a stint watching children's telly. But ultimately, for all the nods to other movies (Faster Pussycat Kill Kill being the most bizarre), and for all the ideas, Pat falls just a little flat when it matters. Watched this with two 4 year olds (one boy one girl) and a two year old. Both of the elder children asked to leave about 30 minutes in with the comments of 'this is rubbish' and 'I'm bored'. From an adult perspective I found nothing of any interest in the attempts at humour, and the story line was as dull as dishwater. It just doesn't work on any level. Plus, with the film seeing Pat enter a Britain's Got Talent-esque competition, we got Stephen to relive his worst ever audition (it involved being half-naked up a ladder) and chatted to Ronan about a possible move from X Factor Australia to the homegrown version...
