As we waited in line to be seated, Amina slipped her hand into Daisy’s. I could see her blush, the same way she did when Amina first asked her out. When she saw Martita for the first time. Then Alexander, who I hadn’t noticed looking at me, did the same. The wind blew in Egypt. The scorpions were scuttling on the morning to leave Egypt. The sun rose and the hot sand brushed against my face. Me and Alexander, were holding hands and, no one else was up. Amina gasped, but somehow, she didn’t look as surprised as I thought she would of. Suddenly, I realise something. The only gap in our investigation. Everyone thought the Breath of Life was a group of English ladies and gentlemen, who believe themselves to be reincarnations of the ancient pharaohs. Yes, are you with me? Well, when Theodora Miller was found dead, our thoughts were immediately turned to the Breath of Life. So, we did some searching, and, naturally, found out that the pharaohs are just a cover. Have you heard of the Belladonna girls?” Robin Stevens presents as herself and series author with some fun details about "The Golden Age of Detective Stories" and "The Books that Made Murder Most Unladylike" which point her readers to the talented writers and their detectives that inspired her to create her young characters and structure her boarding-school centered mysteries. She includes an important overview of how mystery writers can rely on and yet choose to break from time to time the "rules" of what a crime writer "should and shouldn't put in their books" (71). There is a particularly insightful moment where Stevens refers to the crime writing rules by Ronald Knox that she has in mind while writing her stories, and she outlines how Knos, who had a pretty flat-out racist rule 5 that Stevens absolutely had to break "No Chinese person must figure in the story", needs to be revised, pointing out how important it is not to allow those kinds of prejudices to continue to restrict and marginalize characters and stories.

I highly doubt that they would let me have it. You will be chosen, afterall I am too scarred to be useful.” By this I mean the many beatings my wilful temper has led me to. I grinned. I missed you too! But why are you here? I thought you decided to stay in Egypt with Amina!” Next to me, Alexander tapped my hand to get my attention. “Hazel, do you know that woman?” he asked. I am constantly and wildly enthusiastic for the world of Hazel and Daisy and their Detective Society. This is a delightful book of 'extras', just the sort of book I have always loved - notes from the characters, short stories, a few recipes, and notes from the author, too. Glimpses behind the scenes, insides and outs, further reading lists and tips, historic inspiration as well as suggestions for practical mystery-solving and codework.

Then the first cry comes and we all sit up in horror. Screams curl my blood and my mind. What’s going on? We can make out words now through the crys. Our parents. I feel as though I do,” I said, fidgeting with my fur muff. “She reminds me of… well, you know who I mean.” He did. I meant my best friend, whom I hadn’t seen for two years. In that time, we had lost touch, and I had told myself to move on. She had probably forgotten me anyway. I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to write how we thought it was going to end, how we wanted it to end or just make up and ending at random. I chose the last one, because I would not want the books to end like this! I’m so excited for the last MMU, detective society forever! Oh be quiet,’ she said,’ I am not listening to you rant all day. I must go and meet Amina.’ And just like that she left. I couldnt believe it. The mystery itself began almost three years ago, just before I came to Deepdean. What started off as an ordinary night turned into a nightmare…

You are no friend of mine.” And with that she slid off the roof, and the only sound Hazel could hear was the light jingling of the drain pipe as Daisy hauled herself down. And as Hazel looked off into the distance wondering how one visit to Egypt could have ripped her world apart, her last single tear dripped down with a splash, the ending to the most beautiful adventure. PDF / EPUB File Name: Cream_Buns_and_Crime_-_Robin_Stevens.pdf, Cream_Buns_and_Crime_-_Robin_Stevens.epub As I fingered the Detective Society badge which was pinned proudly to my chest, I thought about Daisy, and every case we solved. Then, I realised, we hardly ever talked about anything but murder – not about ourselves or each other – just……..murder. If you have not read any of the MMU books before, I would absolutely not recommend this book. You have to have read every single one of the previous five to fully get every possible shine from this book. This is because in this, there are references to every single one of the previous six that I relished because I was revisiting glorious literary moments but if you haven't read those previous six, you'll be thinking: "What's going on?" This is the first part of my story I hope you like it. I have done it very differently as they don’t go to Egypt at all and nether of them die!

There is also a short story in this written by Beanie, a friend of Daisy and Hazel. Some of the girls' friends are Kitty, Beanie, Lavinia, Kitty's younger sister Binny and in the novels, we don't get much of an insight into them so it was great for me to find out more about these girls and what mysteries they get up to solving. The narrator of that story was Beanie who is also so incredibly humble and naïve and innocent: she is so adorable and I love her.

If you want (and only if you want!) you’re allowed to post the first 500 words of your story in the comments below. I have to moderate the comments so it may take a while for them to show up – please be patient. I don’t want to see you apologising for your story or minimising what you’ve done when you post – writing a story is a triumph and you should be proud!Yes, that is brilliant work! But only her family would get anything if she died, so let’s write a suspect list!” I cried, and we set to work. It doesn’t make sense,’ Daisy proclaimed, ‘How could Harold have killed Alison and Ling Ling? And George was there ? Why did they not kill him too?’ I had seen those eyes happy, sad, furious, desperate, but never as cold as that. Daisy’s eyes betrayed her and told me that it was foolish to hope. The detective society was finished, our friendship was gone, and so was Beanie. It truly was a baffling case. So far darling Rose was dead, as was Alison Murcia, the Spanish singer and Amina ‘s cousin. The case got harder by the minute. We have had other troubles this case too. Daisy spends most of her time being awed by Amina. Anything Amina said goes. Yesterday ,though Amina is not part of the detective society, Amina was sure she had solved the case. Daisy believed her until the last second. I had lost my sister and Amina had lost her cousin, but all Daisy did was comfort Amina. Even an hour ago, when they arrested Harold I had my doubts. We all said our goodbyes to Amina and got on the boat. This was the end. No more deaths, no more murders and just … life.

I decided to do another story. This one is when they are twenty and this is to just give me hope one of them survives 🙂 I wish I was away with the fairies” Beanie, one of our detective society members, replies before Hazel can. “Then at least I would be nearer Mummy. But then it is angels that visit Heaven, isn’t it?” she finishes sadly. The books in the series follow them as they come across real murders within their personal lives which they solve secretively. Obviously the adults don't want them to get involved and Daisy and Hazel really see it as their job to solve the mystery before the police and to bring the killer to justice…without getting caught. We turned and pushed our way through the crowd and went to a room where we could speak without being overheard. “A murder has happened!” I cried. “We will have to solve this case!” It was the first day of the summer holidays and we were at Daisy’s Uncle Felix and Aunt Lucy’s flat in London. Daisy poured syrup on her pancakes so angrily that she didn’t notice it overflowing over the sides of her plate. Suddenly Bridget came in and said “Post! One for Mr M, two for Mrs M and, Oh, one for you Hazel.” She put it down in front of me and I knew the handwriting at once. From the look on Daisy’s face she did to. We stood up at the same time and ran to our room, breakfast forgotten. Laying face down on the bed I opened it. This is what it said:

That's what the series is (with its phenomenal character development), now let's discuss the actual book. We are sitting in Hazel’s room all trying to digest the scene at tea. Hazel is pacing the floor muttering “ how dare he” over and over again ( it is extremely annoying and in any other circumstance I would tell her to please be quiet or else. But in these circumstances I probably shouldn’t.) Beanie is sitting on her bed watching Hazel like a hawk and Kitty is refurbishing the room out loud.
