Just like my parents, I was keeping my skeletons in the closet because of shame and guilt. It was a harmful cycle, and one that had to be broken before it broke me forever. I love that Simone, just like many of us, have loved reading since she was young. She would read to escape her reality, like her mother and father yelling at all hours of the night. A. Seek help. Speak up about what is happening. There are so many people and organisations who can help you to escape to safety, to protect you and your children. It is NOT your fault. You deserve to be free from pain, stress, fear, and guilt. You deserve to feel safe and happy. Believe me when I reassure you from my own real life experience that your children will thrive once they are removed from the toxically abusive environment. Life is too short, so allow others to help you and your children to live your best lives.

This is honestly one of the most interesting memoirs I have ever read. In 'The Fate We Make' Simone recounts, not only hers, but her family's story. Each woman has their own story to tell and each one of them persevered through whatever life threw at them. I am in awe of these women and of Simone. They have been through so much...yet hope was never truly lost and I think that's such a beautiful message in itself.

When tragedy strikes the house, Bron begins to sense dark secrets smouldering beneath Greenwood Manor's surface. Soon he's not sure what to believe, or whether he even has a future at Greenwood. Only Darcy holds the key, if he can be persuaded to reveal his heart to Bron . The beginning on the book begins with some short history on Singapore and Simone writes from the point of view of her female ancestors. This sets the stage for unfamiliar readers and gives us insight into how her family’s past experiences have shaped who Simone is. Professional Growth: With water readily available for health, sanitation, and hygiene, individuals can pursue professional careers, realizing their full potential. We believe in creating a future where doctors, engineers, teachers, and professionals of all kinds can flourish. Q. Your memoir recounts in brief the lives of your female ancestors. What did you learn most from their own life stories? A. I believe that everything in life happens for a reason, even the really hard stuff. My maternal grandmother held the same ‘fatalistic’ views. It would be easy to think that we have no control over our own fate, but I’ve learned that we are the makers of our own fate through our choices. I’ve learned that I can’t control every event that I experience, but I can control how I react to it. With every decision we take, and consequence we face, we create a ripple effect of resulting circumstances and more choices to make, like dominos falling in succession when we push over the first at the beginning of the chain.

One of my favourite bits about this book was the constant reminder that we all read smut romance books. Also how AMAZING is this guy. You'll find out why he is all bookish smut readers dream bf once you've read the book. BUT SERIOUSLY I was so jealous. Recounting in beautiful detail the lives of the powerful women who shaped her family and how their stories informed her place in the world, this first instalment in a trilogy of deeply personal memoirs is an unflinching look at finding oneself in the midst of crushing expectation and unexpected tragedy. Journeying beyond survival to success. It is not easy to be a woman and even harder it is when your from Asia especially in the olden days ! Patriarchy , abuse , manipulations , gender bias and so many other issues that one cannot even speak about freely! But the fact that the author not only fought these and survived but decided to put them in words so that others may read and benefit and be inspired is something to be applauded. That was, until decades of unending stress finally reached breaking point last year, resulting in a medical emergency.

Simone’s storytelling is honest and raw, making it a deeply emotional read. She fearlessly shares her experiences, both painful and inspiring, creating a strong connection with the readers. Through her eyes, we witness the impact of childhood trauma, the complexities of romantic and familial relationships, and the journey toward finding true love and happiness. The memoir also offers a unique perspective on Eastern culture, shedding light on the mentality and values that significantly impact Simone’s self-worth and life choices. It’s a thought-provoking exploration of the collision between tradition and individuality. I felt like a lot of it just didn't make complete sense until I get my hands on the second book. I have a lot of questions left unanswered. except for Darcy, the elusive and tempestuous eldest son. Despite the rumours about him, Bron cannot help feeling drawn to the one person who seems determined to avoid him. I was rushed to hospital by my husband because of severe chest pains. My blood pressure was through the roof,” explains Simone. Simone was born to a family with traditions deeply rooted in their Singaporean Chinese ancestry. As Simone grows up, she is torn by her desire to follow the traditions as expected by her family, or create a path for herself that may diverge from the path she was expected to follow. At Water4Mercy, we understand that when people are thirsty and hungry, it's nearly impossible for them to thrive. We start by ensuring that communities have access to clean and safe water sources. By quenching their thirst and providing water for hygiene and sanitation, we lay the foundation for a healthier and more prosperous future. The Fate We Make: Heartbreak is the story of Simone’s resilience, healing journey, and push to end generational trauma with her to create a better future for her kids. In response I retreated into books, literature, and music, preferring their company to the outside world. Faced with the twin shames of her parents disapproving of the father-to-be and the embarrassment that an unplanned child would bring upon her family, she had to face a heart-breaking dilemma: keep her baby or have an abortion. Also, it made me think of how it helps if the reader is familiar with the Chinese way of life, culture, and environment. For most Americans or Europeans that would be something outrageous, but it's the norm for Mone. That’s where she lives. That’s where she grew up. That’s Chinese family “love” and Chinese family values.
