Coconut Oil. I buy mine in bulk from Azure Standard. You can use olive or sunflower oil if you are allergic. I use expeller-pressed coconut oil to avoid the coconut scent, but you can use extra virgin if that’s what you have. If you are looking for a true essential oil to use in this recipe that would have the same notes of vanilla, I would recommend Balsam of Peru Oil. It has a wonderful woody, vanilla-like scent that would be perfect for lip balm. This homemade Vanilla Lip Balm makes for a great gift idea for birthdays, holidays, wedding showers and more! In our biggest beauty test yet, involving the most testers and products we've tried to date. Nearly 1,400 women swiped and pouted their way through 61 brands of lip balms to find the most effective lip treatment. We asked them to assess ease of use and how well the balm hydrated and protected their lips from dryness Our testers also looked into greasiness and how often they needed to reapply the balm throughout the day. In the GHI beauty lab, we measured how effective each balm was at maintaining the protective moisture barrier of the skin over a six-hour period after applying the product. You only need 2-3 ingredients to make a basic lip balm. This recipe uses coconut oil, almond oil, beeswax, and essential oils. You can create your own blend for this recipe with just coconut oil and wax if you like. It’s really a versatile DIY that can be made various ways! Can I use honey instead of beeswax for lip balm?

Raw Honey ( This is an optional ingredient. You can use any honey, but raw is my favorite and contains antioxidants) You agree to indemnify and hold Space NK (and its officers, directors, agents, subsidiaries, joint ventures, employees and third-party service providers, including but not limited to Bazaarvoice, Inc.), harmless from all claims, demands, and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of a breach of your representations and warranties set forth above, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party. I was a little intimidated when I first started making my own homemade beauty products. I never thought of myself as a DIYer, but I realized how easy it was to make my own products once I started. And it’s a ton of fun!! I love not having chapped lips in the winter, but I don’t like regular lip balm from the store. I know there are a lot of natural choices out there, but they can be expensive and hard to find. Plus they still often contain “natural flavors” and artificial fragrances….whatever those might be.

Will you be claiming the VAT back?

Don’t want to make your own Lip Balm and would rather buy it instead? I love the natural lip balms from Made On! Shea Butter. Look for an unrefined shea butter that retains all its original vitamins. The shea butter is the key in this recipe to combat dryness. Vanilla isn’t truly an essential oil, but it’s much better for you to use in homemade goods than a fragrance oil since the oil is at least made from real vanilla.) We also don’t use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they're pretty common too, including with a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here.

In short, yes. You may have heard about safety concerns relating to petroleum jelly (a common ingredient in lip balm) and carcinogens, but all lip balms sold in the UK meet strict EU safety standards. How the GHI tests lip balms This sweet and replenishing homemade vanilla lip balm is simple to make yourself with just a few ingredients, and it’s amazing at keeping your kisser healthy. It’s also perfect for colder weather when our lips need a little extra nourishment. Our tried and true (and loved!) recipe features two of our all-time favorite carrier oils, Avocado Oil and Coconut Oil. Both moisturize and enrich your skin’s softness for hours. Plus, we added a boost of vitamin E for extra beautiful and silky lips. I love adding raw honey to my lip balm and have done so many times. Unfortunately, some readers have said that the honey sunk to the bottom of their containers. I believe this is due to the type of honey used (raw vs pasteurized) and also how well the honey is mixed into the lip balm in step 4. You may leave it out completely if you do not wish to use it. This lip balm is still very good without it. What ingredients do you need to make lip balm? Peppermint oil and vanilla are a great combo (use vanilla extract if you don’t have vanilla essential oil)! I also love sweet orange essential oil for my lip balms. The honey separated in this lip balm. Did I do something wrong?Step Two: Remove from heat. Add in the drops of essential oil depending on how strongly you want it flavored (or you don’t have to add any). I added about 12 drops to mine. Cherry: Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Diisostearyl Malate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polybutene, Hydrogenated Poly (C6-14 Olefin), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Microcrystalline Wax/Cera Microcristallina/Cire microcristalline, Octyldodecanol, Synthetic Wax, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Vanillin, Propylene Carbonate, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Flavor/Aroma, Mica, Rosin/Colophonium/Colophane, BHT, Cinnamal, Eugenol, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410). Step One: Melt together the beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil in a small saucepan over a medium-low heat. You could even do it in the microwave in a microwave-safe or glass bowl if you are pressed for time.

Because we make our products for our families, we have a strict ingredient philosophy that excludes ingredients like Parabens, Phenoxyethanol and penetration enhancers.

Beeswax: Beeswax is naturally hydrating and increases essential moisture in the skin. Commonly found in hand and body creams, beeswax helps to retain natural skin moisture. In a double boiler, combine the avocado oil, shea butter, beeswax, coconut oil, vitamin E oil, and vanilla. Stir until completely melted.

This balm goes on smooth and you can feel it giving you that extra layer of moisture. Plus, the beeswax is perfect for holding in all that moisture and creating a barrier against wind and dryness. Lip balm is a must-have for those of us that live in a dry place and whose lips need some healing, especially in the winter months.. New to essential oils? Learn more about how we use them and why you should use them as well. Homemade Vanilla Lip Balm Ingredients In our ongoing plan to improve our sustainability, the Lanolips Basic Balm tubes are made from 100% post-consumer-recycled material. Our boxes are printed using soy-bean and vegetable-based inks. Lanolips' goal is to transition all tubes to more eco-friendly material over the next 12 - 24 months, as testing and material are further advanced.I first experimented with making homemade peppermint lip balm last month and loved it. First, all it takes to make it is melting ingredients in a bowl over a double boiler. It’s the easiest craft ever, except when you hand someone a tube and tell them it’s homemade, they will be seriously impressed because it sounds much more difficult than it actually is. Score points for you! There's lots of things you won't find in these lip balms (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. This includes Paraffin and Mineral Oil which derive from petroleum, but are commonly found in most commercial lip products. We don’t think putting the stuff that goes into our cars on our lips is the healthiest thing we can do, especially when everything on the lips eventually gets eaten. If you want to add some Vitamin E oil or Organic Rosemary Extract to act as a natural preservative, you can do that as well. Just a few drops will do since this is a small recipe.
