John was such a funny and warm guide we ended up getting his advice at the shop and bought a beautiful bottle of the cask strength 2006 single malt (this stuff is delicious).Initially I was thinking of a score in the lower 60's, but after half an hour it becomes notably more complex. This resembles the profile of some recent official bottlings. a number of new ‘craft’ distilleries were founded in recent years, this means that Edradour can no longer lay claim Edradour whiskies vary in style, but usually have sherry finishes and a robust profile. Their flagship 10 year old expression, from their core range, is matured in ex-Oloroso and ex-bourbon casks, resulting in notes of fruit, spice and nuts. Conversely, the Edradour Ballechin 10 Year Old is a heavily peated bottling from their Discovery Range; a range that experiments with different casks, including wine. This was the last distillery tour we went on in our 2 week honeymoon tour of Scotland, and it was by far the best. We arrived a little late but our guide John was welcoming and endlessly entertaining. Unlike other tours you get straight down to business and start with a tasting before you look around this beautiful distillery. It's quite literally a cottage industry, with whitewashed farm buildings with red painted doors.Afterwards we went along to the bar for a few samples. The woman behind the bar was absolutely lovely and incredibly knowledgeable and we ended up staying longer than we probably should have.
